The province of Nova Scotia has absurd helmet laws, carrying a $140 fine for skateboarding without a helmet, whether on the sidewalk (which also carries a fine) or in a skatepark, or above age 18 or below. The law even affects skaters' auto insurance, with one local threatened to be dropped for multiple helmet fines. Nova Scotia skaters have put together a petition asking to repeal or amend the law. We're sad to hear that Lewis Marnell passed away this morning at the too young age of 31. As a great person, he brightened the lives of all he knew, and as a great skateboarder, he inspired more than he'd ever met. Our deepest sympathies to his friends and family. RIP in peace.
