Gwar

They had everything I ever wanted in a band: heavy metal rocking, huge art props, and some comic relief. I heard at one time they were even sponsored by Gatorade to help generate the large quantities of artificial blood used to dowse crowds during their decapitations. GWAR's fans, even the ones way in the back, come to shows with expectations of being completely saturated with the blood of whatever current news figure having an "America Must be Destroyed" attitude. GWAR, to this day, still holds up as one of the sickest live acts around!

They send a relentless message of mayhem, waging war on pop-culture icons and politicians through regular crucifixion and/or castrations. Make sense? Who cares—its GWAR!!! Lead singer Oderus Urungus agreed to meet with me in New York to talk about their latest Metal Blade Records concoction, Lust In Space. What ensued was pure interview carnage, with some bonus surprise shredding! –Jon Ehinger
