hey sleazy............how was your wife with morning sickness. mines fuckin dyin over here, i had to go buy her ensures so she can get some nutriants. i here that if the sickness is gnar then its a sign off a really healthy baby. got any advice
my wifes only gets bad when she messes up on her diet. our approach is to have healthy meals every 2-3 hours whether she is hungry or not. the idea being that the nausia is the body's way of telling the mother that the baby needs food. so if you keep the baby feed, then no nausia.
either me or my wife will cook a really big meal on mondays that will be our lunches for the week. this week we did turkey meat loaf and then we get the small frozen veggies and just heat everything in the mircowave. but she still needs 3 other meals a day besides the big 3. so for those some easy things to keep around for when she needs something quick are:
cheese and crackers with milk (go with low fat\skim and wheat if you can)
peanut butter with crackers and fruit with milk
and for something a little more substantial you can do sandwiches and burgers. i usually cook a big batch of turkey burgers and do them like Mc Donalds cheese burgers except with low fat cheese and wheat bread (you can trim the bread down if you really want to keep it lean). I'll cut them in half and put them in foil and then my wife brings them to work and every 2-3 hours she will grab a half of a burger and eat it cold. it's better than it sounds, healthy and quick plus you get a good protien portion.
it's worked out really good for us so far and without fail if my wife complains about nausia and i ask "how were your meals", I'll get an answer that starts with "well..."
It's definitely in your own interest to make sure she stays on her meals because as I'm sure you know, when she nausious, you'll hear about it. so i usually check in with my wife around meal time to make sure she is eating her meal, otherwise, she'll be sick and complaining at home later.
a few things to keep in mind:
- baby only requires 100 extra calories a day = 1 soda. so it's not about eating more so much as it is about eating differently. instead of 3 big meals you want 6 small one. if you keep each portion around the size of her fist then you'll be doing great. a portion is either your carb, veggie and protien so 3 portions all together per meal (three fist).
- carbs are not good while pregnant and if your wife is anything like mine she be craving the kinds of food that, well, a todler would like and that is usually carb heavy (mac and cheese, pizza, etc...). you should favor protien over carbs when planning meals as much as possible
- veggie are good!
- fruit is better than candy and other carbs but later in the day not such a good idea and our nurse told us that 80% of sugar goes straight to the baby. last ultra sound we did my wife had an OJ on the way too the clinic and our baby was seriously break dancing in the womb. little shit wouldn't hold still. if it's a boy, he's going to be wild.
that being said, me and my wife are very health\body concious type people and a big goal of ours is for my wife to still have a nice body after the pregnacy. not everyone is concerned with that. our total weight gain goal for the pregnacy is 25lbs, which is pretty ambitious when you consider that the baby and fuilds will be about 15lbs. but so far we are right on target. we just finished the first trimester and my wife went from 95lbs to around 98lbs. so basically a lbs a month for us so far. but again, we have been dieting and exercising for years and we have some vanity goals that a lot of people won't care about, so our goals may be a little extreme compared to what other people might want to achieve.

we try to think about the the whole instead of making it all about the baby. idea being that if anyone is miserable the whole unit will probably not function well.
i work a 40 hour a week type job M-F. it's really chill and i can pretty much wear the same cloths i skate in to work which is really a huge plus because it makes my mornings way easier because I don't have to grab an extra outfit and pair of shoes everyday.
damn, I would be really stoked if my life turns out that way later

Sleazy is going to be a kickass dad I bet.
haha, thanks guys, it feels good to hear some supportive feedback. the most annoying thing about pregnacy and kids for us so far has been people being negative towards our lifestyle choices and goals. people can be so pushy and negative when it comes to kids.

Sleazy, you and your Wife sound very level headed and responsible. I had forgotten about all the unsolicited advice you receive during a pregnancy. MFS and Sleazy if it starts getting you down trust me it will pass and you'll be so busy at firdt you'll soon forget.

It was our one weak slip type of deal during the pregger days. We ate it everyday for about 2 weeks straight. It's gone now but I'm pretty sure I gained about 10 pounds from it.

I had forgotten about all the unsolicited advice you receive during a pregnancy.
it's been the worst part for us
i had this lawyer guy who i meet at a brunch that my apartment threw. him and his wife were super pushy about 100% traditional pregnacy and birthing, breast feeding, etc... but he seemed real nice so i kind of just listened to what he had to say. next thing you know, his kids come up and one of them had downs. i was thinking WTF, what makes you think i'd take your advice? he even gave us his number and told us to call him anytime of day or night if we had questions. but i was just shocked that this guy didn't atleast qualify his advice with "well, we did have a downs kid and all but..."

i've actually been loosing weight. my wife has stopped drinking completely and so i figured i would stop drinking during the week (except one beer while skating, if i skate), i guess to show support but also just because my main drinking budy is on the waggon.

we would terminate.
one of the most contriversal things you can do when pregnant is to have an Amio test which my wife and i still haven't made a 100% descision on whether we will are won't do it at this point. we are still researching it. but dads to be, take heed, don't talk amio's at work or with family. it's basically an abortions conversation and can get really heated and uncomfortable real quick. we didn't warn my mother in law about it and she went to work and mentioned that we were talking with our doctors about it and got mobbed by the women at her work.
the interesting thing to me will be to see what will happen when they discover a gay gene, seems likely too me. all of a sudden all the pushy, religious, anti-abortion assholes will be rethinking their stance. "well, this child was damned anyway, so why bring him into the world..."

a shitload. our is 800 a month but we looked at some that cost as much as 1300. plus you got your moms on the case and you it's a proper day care so no worries about coming home to a baby that's been sleeping all day.
seriously, i'm envious.
I work at a daycare for children who already go to school (no clue what it's called in english) but if i look at what i get paid an hour and see what sort of things are present at such places it is no wonder that parents have to pay a shitload of money to send their little ones to it. It somehow seems like a vicious circle, working more hours to be able to send your kids to daycare so you can work more, but i'm only 20 and not expecting children any time soon, so i might lack some knowledge.
Congrats to all who are about to have a kid and i would gnar the dads who are able to skate and raise a kid if i could!
daycare has everything to do with working mothers. if you have stay at home mom then she obviously takes care of the kids but i was never really interested in a stay at home mom. plus my wife is a career woman so her salary is thankfully, way higher than 800 a month so it make sense for her not to quit.
the down side is that if you want to have more than one kid it cost you that much more each time where if you have a stay at home mom then it cost you no more but i imagine stresses the wife out more.
when i look at my finances with my dad from time to time he's really old school and always goes "well your wife won't be able to quit her job anytime soon..." and I always have to explain to him that that was never a goal of ours and that my wife actually likes to work. she got magna cum laude at her university, what would make him think she would want to waste that? it's crazy to me but different people do it different ways. and fuck, maybe she will blow up and one day I could be the stay at home dad, haha.
yeah if you put it that way daycare isn't a bad idea (financially speaking). obviously when you've got a good job it is worth it, but i looked from a single parent perspective at first (i was raised by my mother alone, so that could've been the reason why). And i am for one not a supporter of the traditional household so i gotta give props for not becoming a dull couple which results in a 'married with children' situation, which a lot of people tend to become somehow.
That whole diet / nutrition story seems great so i'll try to remember that for when i need it.

In 95% of the cases, the parent (or both parents) who looks after him/her all day long has no social or other life

we don't purposefully go agaisnt tradition but it seems every time we get ready to do something that has tradition associated with it we both think "we have to do what? that seems lame, we should do it like this instead..." we both were raised in ways where we didnt' really encounter the traditions when we were younger, so it's not like we even know the traditions until it's our turn and without fail, every tradition we encounter seems stupid to us.
