Thanks to DC for the kicks
Danny Way Landau mid, Josh Kalis "centric" and the Cole S

All of those are pretty disgusting but those chris cole's are absolutely horrible. DC is the worst!  The Kalis shoes aren't half bad but I don't understand everybody fanning out on them super hard.  Is it because he posts on slap?

They should have some reDisCover interview style ads where everybody gets interviewed and says things like, "yeah the shoes are ugly and I feel shame for riding for the brand but....the paycheck is so good,  man...couldn't pass it up!"  The first thing I think about when seeing their logo is money.  Not skateboarding.  Nyjah fits at least.  I guess money and skateboarding have been intertwined in his mind from the get-go.

I completely agree with all of this

Been wearing SB Blazers for a long time.
I'm not so hyped on them as I used to.
Need to get something new.
Something relatively slim.
Those Busenitz ones look dope, and my friend's rocking them, and based on his flippery, shit works real good.

ken block partnered with danny way to start dc skate shoes way back in 94, then they just became big and expanded.

i guess only small time companies can be considered "core" then...

For me I find that the board feel with them is horrendous that and they feel way too bulky for a vulc shoe...to me anyways

Because it's a 'division'.  That's like saying Nike having a skateboard division makes them a core skateboard company, when they're not at all.

in todays market if you wanna do more than just stay afloat you gotta branch out. i dont see anything wrong with a skate shoe company wanting to make more than than just skate shoes. business wise, why limit yourself if you have the resources to get in other, bigger markets as well? Their skate division is doing great and they have many skaters working within it guiding its overall direction. As long as thats the case, they're "core" to me.

we're really comparing nike to dc?

a company co-founded by a skater?

so any skate shoe company that makes shoes for anything other than skateboarding can not be considered core?

is vans core?

Why not compare the two?  Obviously Nike is much bigger but it's the same situation.  Just because a skateboarder was part of a company's inception doesn't make them core.  DC has whored themselves out, and up until recently were mostly worn by tapout/mma shit heads.  Literally the only places I've seen them sold are West 49 (the Canadian zumiez) and discount shoe stores.  Why not support companies like Huf, Lakai, Emerica, Vox, Dekline etc that are solely involved with Skateboarding and don't have significant income coming from shit like rally and motocross?

And no, Vans is definitely not core.  Although they do a lot of stuff for skateboarding, they're just as corporate as any other shoe giant.

those companies only appeal to people that wear vulcs.

other than huf, their cupsoles don't look good imo and are not very good skate shoes. as a consumer you shouldn't be forced to spend money on a product you don't like just because it's "the good thing to do"

in reality, how core is it that these companies sell their products and promote to mail order sites like zumiez and active and don't exclusively sell their product out of core skate shops with online stores (emerica sells shoes through eastbay)? oh forgot, most of these companies are trying to make good revenue.

Yeah fair enough, I do agree that core companies have become complacent in terms of design and quality of the product.  I'm not even bashing people who chose to buy from larger companies.  But saying you support a core brand when you bought DCs would be a bit ridiculous.

all i'm saying is dc is the lesser of 2 evils between the 2.

dc shoes started out as a skate shoes brand (unlike nike) and expanded. im not sure but my guess would be some of the guys behind dc skate still have a love for skateboarding like any other "core" shoe brand.

Lakai's vulc sole is shit. Their cupsole shoes are great. Your argument is invalid.

sorry if i quote the wrong person. man i love the cup sole on the huf pro.. and i relaly like the choices too. once they break in some really nice. very grippy and a great insole. so i think HUF is making good shoes. but i also like adidas.. they were created by a nazi.. so..
