Alan - How did you like Young Adult? I liked parts of it, expected it to be more funny, some of the time it made me feel really uncomfortable.
I liked it a lot. It was bittersweet, with emphasis on bitter. I also expected a light comedy but it was much, much better.

Summer's boring as fuck so I've been on a movie binge recently, catching up with my "yet-to-see-but-really-need/want-to list".
These were all really great
And this is one of my favorite movies to come out in a while.. definitely want to watch it again

This is streaming on Netflix and I really loved it. It's a short watch too.
This was GREAT. Good call on the recommendation, watch this if you get the chance.

I watched "if..." a few years back. If nothing else, its cool to see an early Mcdowell movie, and the role which eventually landed him "Alex" from A Clockwork Orange. When trying to find his character, Kubrick screened that scene with him right before he's going to be whipped and he just has that huge grin on his face, which eventually led to Alex DeLarges defiant trademark grin.
I watched this yesterday
Not overly impressive, admittedly I'm not too into American politics. Decent performances, everything was pretty solid, just nothing special.
Watching Fargo right now, bah its so good. The performances, script, camerawork, music. Everything works so well in that movie, one of those that anytime its on TV no matter where I start I'll always finish it.

All Coen brothers movies are fantastic. Their "True Grit" was amazing as well.

If is awesome, pin points student anger during the sixties perfectly, also Lindsay Anderson is an brilliant director. Malcolm McDowell is perfect in it.

If you like Lindsay Anderson, Malcolm McDowell and surrealistic odysseys, you should also check out "O Lucky Man.." from 1972.

This falls in the category of so bad it's good. If you have seen the original C.H.U.D be warned this has nothing to do with it, you will laugh really hard at how absurd this movie is!!

YES. Excellent movie. I came really close to having my knuckles tattooed with "COOL HAND".
Question for you hardcore film fans that's been bugging me for a long time:
Years ago (mid-late 80s) I saw a movie on TV that scared the fuck out of me and I've been trying to track it down, the problem is I only remember the fear it gave me and one scene. In the scene a girl is getting ready for bed and there is a weird man looking down on her from peep holes in the ceiling. After he moves around, you can see that there is a diagram of the bed and a sleeping body drawn on the floor of the attic or whatever room he's in directly over her bed and body. The peepholes are drilled over the ceiling over various points of her body. After she falls asleep he runs a tube into one of the peepholes and pumps some little handpump type thing so that a green slime comes out of something that is hidden under a sheet, through the tube, out of the peephole and it drips onto her body. He swaps the tube out through a few of the peepholes until she has the slime all over her (she doesn't wake up.) He then pulls the sheet off of where the slime is coming out and it reveals this really tall clear canister that is full of these giant cicada-like insects.
That's all I remember. The film stock itself looks to be pretty old as well, maybe some time in the 60s or early 70s. I've tried various ways of typing this into search engines but to no avail. If anyone has a clue, it'd be really appreciated.

Finally got around to watching the original Planet of the Apes. God, that brunette girl is so gorgeous.
My mom used to be a manager at a theatre while living in Italy. So my family got to watch movies for free, which turned my parents into huge movie buffs. I didn't appreciate this movie when it was released but I decided to watch it last night. Really well done film. I can definitely relate...

Besides their obvious ones Fargo, Raising Arizona, O Brother, Where Art Thou? , The Big Lebowski and No Country For Old Men, I would recommend these
The Man Who Wasn't There
Amazingly shot black and white noir. One of the few Billy Bob Thorton movies I really enjoyed. Features a younger Scarlett Johansson too, can't ask for much more
The Hudsucker Proxy
Hudsucker Proxy, The (1994) Scene
One of their lesser known movies, a dark comedy, very stylized with quick talking reporters and ice cold businessmen. Its not for everyone though, probably one of their lesser knowns for a reason, but worth a watch I think its great
With most Coen movies, they stick to a pretty solid forumla, and no matter what genre they dip into, they always seem to do well. They have almost exclusively used Roger Deakins to shoot their movies, and frequently use Carter Burwell to do the score, good chemistry.
Millers Crossing is really dope too, they make a lot of good movies

Blood Simple.
probably my favorite Cohen brothers movie
finally saw Beyond the Black Rainbow and i thought it was pretty amazing. I can see how some people might not like it, because it doesn't have the most cohesive narrative, but I'm sure that wasn't the point. It was just dripping with style. definitely for fans of Carpenter, Argento, Cronenberg, Lynch, Clockwork Orange, Altered States, 2001, etc. The soundtrack (by one of the members of black mountain) was great. Movies like this, Drive, and Hobo with a Shotgun are just absolutely killing it right now.

Other than the ones listed, Miller's Crossing, a good gangster flick. A Serious Man, I cannot stress Fargo and Blood Simple enough though.
