celebrations haven't stopped yet at the crib, i flipped over someone's car like stabbin said at 7:30 this morning. that being said, i still don't think our lakers will be vindicated from 08'. they need to beat boston in the finals next year, then i'll really be celebrating. this series was never a question about if the lakers were going to win or not, just a matter of when they were. i'm real hyped about the title being back where it belongs and its been a long 7 years, but they need to successfully defend the title, hopefully against the c's.

Hats off to the Lakers but anyone who actually watches basketball and understands it knows that the series was wayyyy closer than it looked, and easily could have went the other way if not for consistently shitty free throw shooting on the part of Orlando when it counted.
Magic surprised a lot of people this year though.

Orlando owned LA in the regular season. I don't want to dwell on injuries, but if Jameer was never injured, I think they would have won. He scored 55 points in the 2 games vs. LA this year.
That said, LA deserved to win this.

Of course the Lakers deserved to win and they are an incredible team, but come on, even Cliff would have to admit that series wasn't a cake walk.

Game 1: Yeah OK the Lakers whooped that ass. It wasn't even close.

Game 2: Overtime. That means it was tied at the end of regulation. That means it was fucking close. Really close. The Magic missed 7 free throws. If they make 4 or 5 of those, the game most likely doesn't even go to OT and the Magic split the series, taking away the Lakers home court advantage. Also Courtney Lee's miss on that incredible in-bounds play right before the buzzer, you know, the one Gasol goaltended on? Stuck his hand up through the rim on? Yeah, basket interference, that one. If that shot goes down, no OT and the Magic get the split in L.A.

Game 3: The Magic win.

Game 4: Another Overtime game. If you're keeping score, that's half the games in the series so far. Teams that are not even close to each other's skill level usually tend to not play heated games that end up going into overtime. If one team is far superior to the other, they usually tend to kick the shit out of that team, not go into an extra period after regulation. Also, the Magic missed 15 free throws. FIFTEEN FREE THROWS. Even making half of those would have been decisive, you can't say it didn't affect the outcome of the game when it clearly did. Also, Orlando was up by 5 with 38 seconds to play in the 4th. Does that sound like Laker domination? The Magic choked it away when they let Fisher march up the court unmolested and gave him room to shoot that three. Also, Howard missed two free throws right before the Fisher three, he makes one at least and it's a two-possession game at that point with 11 seconds to go and the Lakers aren't playing for the tie. Anyway, GREAT shot, but they should have fucking fouled him or at least played D to the point of making him earn that shit. Fisher fucking rules though, I can't front, he's clutch personified.

Game 5: Was never contested, Lakers win the series.

OK, so half of their four wins were blowouts basically, but the other two were fucking overtime games!
Overtime games that easily could have went the other way, and they're goddamned lucky that they didn't.

My point is the Lakers didn't exactly dominate the Magic, now did they?
I just don't see how anyone could say that the Magic weren't competitive when they were only a couple of plays away from being up 3-1 instead of down 3-1.

It's just weird to see people talking that shit about the Lakers dominating and how the Magic weren't on their level when clearly they were pretty goddamned competitive.

The Lakers came through when it mattered most and they definitely deserved to win it, but even their most devoted fans (at least the non-delusional ones) would tell you that shit was not easy.
