I'm just saying having only a couple companies has happened before, and it was the worst era in skateboarding.

please stop calling me horrible names like idiot and moron.

is ^ this your central point? Because it's total dogshit. Name your favourite videos from the last 15 years, i bet most of them came out when skating wasn't doing big business and there was significantly less companies than there are now.

There won't be any advances in any equipment including boards, wheels, trucks and shoes

this one was quite funny though, what companies would you say had made some advances in shoe "technology" recently?
You really don't know what I'm talking about do you? Because the "big 5" era was more than 15 years ago. But no powell or NHS video is my favorite, I've never really seen a Vision video, I don't think tracker made one. If you think videos like "video days" fall under that, you have it completely backwards, companies like world industries and blind saved skateboarding from those bullshit companies. So my favorite videos over the past 15 years are something like this: Girl- mouse, World-trilogy, Es- menikmati, Alien Workshop-photosynthesis, foundation- rolling thunder, all the black label videos, misled youth, welcome to hell, Supernaut-urban canvas. NONE OF THESE ARE THE BIG 5. When the big 5 got busted out by world skateboards went from having huge wheels and pointed noses to small wheels and symetrical shapes. When skateboarding was smaller is different from when it was big and only a couple companies ran the whole thing. Skating is big now, like it or not, and having less companies won't change a thing. As for shoe advances, look at the difference between shoes 5 years ago and shoes today. A lot different. Oh, and for specifics, the  soletech sti shit is one example, Dekline and vans resurrection of the vulcanized soul is another, but look at any shoe company's past catalogues, the shoes have fucking evolved.

This is getting dumb. I feel like I'm explaining the skateboard industry and basic economics to a cheerleader in the special olympics.

right, nike haven't made any advances then? e-cues? shoes haven't changed for the better since the dunk sb came out and everyone started copying it?

if nike was going to "harm" skating, it would have happened by now.

hmm if there were only 5 teams in skateboarding that would be fucking horrible. i bet those 5 teams would be zero, baker, foundation/toy as one team, and if we were lucky girl/chocolate as one team and workshop/habitat as one team,
If it was anything like the 80's baker, zero and tum yeto would be 3 of the big 5, and companies like Alien wouldn't exist.

yea i forgot about element too. i think habitat and alien could join and survive. i like to think there are enough skateboarders out there that know whats up to support at least one good company.

the only reason there were just 5 big companies back then is because between them they owned most of the production and advertising facilities i.e tracker owned transworld, nhs - thrasher.

that's not the case nowadays so it would be no problem for a few smaller companies to survive, i'm sure alien would.

I got Reynolds 3's now. Good shoes. They have good heel bruise shit in 'em and they break in really nicely. Now they feel so comfortable. I have no complaints about durability. I skate every day and they've lasted, with a little help from shoe goo, for quite a while now.
I'm not too outspoken on this issue, but don't buy a fucking pair of Nikes. I mean, really, just don't do it. Its bad for skateboarding. I'm not going to go into it, but if you are thinking about those other 2 shoes, consider the fact that this one is nike.
AVE I don't know much about. Vans are decent shoes though

vans and nike are basically one in the same.

thats not true at all

you mentioned four shoes not three. never tried the allies but i loved all of the other circas i had. nike=not a skate company, i love vans but on shoes like the ave, rowley slims, and the third grecos the material they use rubs against your akeles tendon/top of your heel and cuts them up which gets really annoying and even hurts. but the worst ones in my opinion are the reynolds 3, they most likely changed but i got them before they got out and i hated them, its not that they wear out too fast its just sole tech sucks at making vulcanized shoes. right under the heel the sole starts to fall off

calm the fuck down "mat", its just a shoe, and him buying it wont save or destroy shit. this is just a good example of people thinking way too hard about nothing, and making skateboarding so much more complicated then it even has to be. skate what you want to, if you like it/feel good skating in it then its cool. nikes gonna be involved in skating whether or not he purchases this pair, and i happen to think they skate well so i'd reccomend them. i'd also go so far as to say that adio milks skateboarding/skate lifestyle more than nike does. Nike may be in the game for a shitty reason, but theyre stuff is good and they are generally pretty low key as far as forcing thier shit down kids' throats. Adio on the other hand? bam billboards and some of the worst shoe designs ever is what comes to mind immediatley. and aren't they owned by K2, a snowboarding company which most likely has little to no interest in skating. ohhhhhh well!

well "dirtjers" wouldnt you rather support a company that is owned by a company that is at least similar to skateboarding or support a company that just wants to take over for money and doesnt give two shits about skateboarding, and isnt even a skate company?

yo your such a little wiener kid, i dont give a fuck what i make you ashamed of. i spend enough time thinking of real skateboarding everyday that i don't have the care to let industry hidden agendas get me that worked up. seriously i have seen a ton of threads with you preaching some holier than thou bullshit, ragging on kids for being psyched on some shoes, and what is it accomplishing? you maybe stopped three kids from buying a pair of shoes? yeah bro your really stopping the mega-beast that is nike, right? im not trying to say nike is an awesome company, and i dont exactly rush to support them either, but to deny the skateability of the pair of shoes in question is stupid. they skate good, therefore if he's psyched on them its only logical he should check them out. i hope your dumb ass spends even more time thinking about shit thats out of your control, and not just going outside and having fun, because i enjoy seeing how pissed off you get on here. no one is stealing skateboarding from you as long as you have a skateboard and can physically go outside and ride it. i know that sounds really corny but its true, and no corporation is gonna change it no matter what they own. you getting yourself that mad about nike just makes it so you enjoy skating less, and therefore your losing out more than anyone.

Thats not my point. I think the more companies there are, the more diversity there will be in skateboarding. You want less companies. I say, if there is a market for the brand, and its skateboarders pushing it, they are welcome.

Menikmati wasn't the first video I saw at all. I worked at a skate shop at the time it came out. That video is sick. Shit changed the way people skate. The first team video I saw was Foundation: Duty now for the future. First video I saw was Thrasher: Hitting the Streets. I got it with a subscription to thrasher.
