Zero's top year was back in 2005. A steady decline has lead to only 80 boards sold through the whole year of 2008.

Only 80 skateboards?

yep, only from SPOT. which means this data isn't accurate of board sales across the country at all.

It'd be cool to see nation-wide statistics. I wonder if Black Box is hurting everywhere.

I was curious as to what the nation-wide numbers would be, too. It's from SPOT but they do mail order, right? I'm willing to guess they're not far from the national average.

I agree with gravel pitch. I would want to see nation-wide statistics for board sales. These statistics don't mean much because it's just SPoT's actual shop, not mail order. The shop in my town sells mostly: Girl, Krooked and Anti Hero (in that order). Do you know the board sales of your shop?

Plan Birth Control is lame. Kick Shecks and J Rogs off and maybe I'd buy one of their boards, probably not but maybe I'd at least give a fuck about them.

Zero is pretty much irrelevant. It has been since probably 2006, and will continue that way until it's out of business. I can sense brands like Fallen and Mystery losing their appeal also... start a distribution company with the goal of selling to the most marginal and the most gimmick-oriented of skateboarders, and that is what your company becomes... marginal.

I wonder how much blank decks, mini logos, etc., are affecting the sales of the bigger companies. I wouldn't doubt that Plan B shot up nationwide in 2007-2008 seeing as every grom I come across has one of those damn sheckler boards with the lame as hell skull with the crown, I seriously want to start focusing those decks. To me Plan Bs in general are as bad as the bam boards that sold like crazy to all the 6-9 graders a couple years ago, its like a vicious cycle and it sucks ass.

I agree with the statement that if a dude that works at/rides for a shop is sponsored by a certain brand, sales of said brand increase. I have seen that around here with Mystery and Fallen.

"The data is from the Skatepark of Tampa point of sale system"

I am the only one who doesn't get those numbers? percentage changes in sales each year- What the fuck is that? Is the red "decrease" and green "increase"? Usually you would use gross margin percentage. That list told me nothing.

Baker 2008: -53.9%   2007: 8%   2006: -17.4%   2005: -27%   2004: 65.9%

^Someone explain what the fuck this is suppose to mean? I'll even add the color font. So Baker started in 2000, so in 2004 their sales increased by 66% from the year prior, and then the next year their total sales decreased by 27% the following year, then decreased by 17%, then increased by 8%, then decreased by 54% in 2008. So does that currently put them at losing money, and to break even they need to make up in sales by 24%? I don't know some of these companies have crazy percentages like Mystery 2004: 7550%, wtf?

Let's say they sold X in 2003. In 2004, sales were X+X(65.9). In 2005, sales were .73[X+X(65.9)]. So if they gained 65.9% in 2004, the next year they lost 27% of the total with the added 66%.

It just looks like there is far to many companies to choose from, plus all the smaller local ones. Skateboarding is not a steady buisness, I'd hate to be running a company and have to stress over shit like this.

the entire page of stats is meaningless.

they don't include board online sales (so no they don't relate to national numbers at all)
they are presented relative to the previous years percentage, so without a starting (2003) dollar figure, they mean nothing.
it's just rob from spot putting some of the stats from his own system up for all to see. i don't think he meant it as a serious financial research tool.
though it means nothing, i still found it interesting and read the entire thing.

sales stats go up when a company drops a new video.

girl is selling well because of fully flared....i know it came out over a year ago but they stay hyping the video.  just look at banner ad above, not to mention the help of having the berrics.  its weird considering i couldn't move a girl board for the life of me back in the early 2000s.  kids were like "girl?  hells no!  wheres them baker/flip decks at".

fallen sales went up since ride the sky came out, same with mystery when their video dropped.  slaves sales will go up when their video drops along with zero.

habitat sales went up when inhabitants came out and AWS is on the rise now because of mindfield.

plan b is selling because of sheckler.  its funny that you don't see anyone over the age of 13 riding a plan b board...unless they got it for free.  i'd imagine anyone older would trade it in at their local shop, i know i would.

videos get kids hyped and make them want to buy whatever companies/riders board.
