Black Math Horseman - Wyllt
listen to full ablum here:
http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/12958-wyllt/
I just found these guys. Really feeling it on first jam, got some Sabbath, Zep, Janes and Isis in the mix with enough originality to keep it interesting for me.
that band is good

much appreciated, I liked it. It's like a cross between metal, psychedelic and indy. Black Sabbath fused with Jefferson Airplane or something.

not to sound like a dick/elitist but
1.FYI that sound is called
doom metal
, check out witch, witchfinder general, witch craft, electric wizard, sleep etc.
2.also indy/indie doesnt have a sound. it just means what kind of record label theyre on.

That's cool, I have a friend who's a metal head and tells me about all the different types, I'm really not that into it yet though. I was trying to describe it as best I could with my own words.

you rule hard.
even though a lot of the bands being mentioned aren't metal, im surprised at the general quality and in this case semi-obscurity of the heavy music slap likes. most people i know that skate dont know shit about music aside from whats in videos.

I have that shirt with quite a few more. Slimer skateboarding in a pool with a slurpee is a favorite.... As for their new album, it actually isn't out yet, I just happen to have heard it. Rules too! And yes Ghostlimb is also a good band

I did not see a heavy metal thread and if their was one it was probably lame. It is time to start one and who better to start one than me grammy nominated recording artist Kim Bendix Petersen. Many of you may know me as KING DIAMOND. Lets list what we listen to and such.
Deep Purple
Pentagram
Rainbow
Led Zeppelin
Dio
Black Sabbath
sunn O)))
Thin Lizzy
Blue Cheer
Celtic Frost
Venom
Motorhead
Metallica (I love the Mercyful Fate medley they do)
Now it is time to list what you listen to
HAIL SATAN!!!
Half of those bands aren't even Heavy Metal. And as a KD fan, check out this Abigail cover

Ripper owns KD so fucking much, can go just as high, just with a loot more power.
OT: Listing up bands from other genres than HM too: Judas Priest, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Metallica before 88, Exodus, Nuclear Assault, Blood Tsunami, Black Sabbath, Saxon, Destruction, Kreator, Flotsam and Jetsam, 3 Inches of Blood, Dark Angel, Pentagram, Powermad, Annihilator, Accept, Evile, Slayer, Testament etc.

How are half those bands not heavy metal? They are all pretty spot on examples of early metal bands. I don't really listen to much of the classic stuff anymore, I am pretty much either grind and power violence or the opposite end of the spectrum with sludge and doom, with a fair amount of death and black in there as well.

Deep Purple - hard rock
Pentagram - doom
Rainbow
Led Zeppelin - hard rock
Dio
Black Sabbath - hard rock/heavy/doom
sunn O)))
Thin Lizzy - hard rock
Blue Cheer
Celtic Frost
Venom - first wave of black?
Motorhead
Metallica - thrash, in the early years atleast
But I'm in on the heavy metal thing on more general terms.

Nah it's not a big deal, I guess I just use the term "heavy metal" as an all encompassing term. I don't get crazy into genre naming, but sometimes you have to because if I say "I listen to heavy metal" some people think Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, when I don't really listen to either. So sometimes to get the point across I just say my little sub genres. Like Pig Destroyer is a grind band, but I would still say they are metal.

Well, most people who's all top 40s, if they ask me what kind of music I listen to and I reply "heavy metal", they think it's like Cannibal Corpse or something. So I might put on Priest just to show them, and they'll be like "dude, thats hard rock, not metal". I hate it, so that might be the reason why I like to be a little more precise.

ive been listening to this band alot lately. the dream left behind is a pretty epic song. im not sure if you consider bones brigade heavy metal (some of there songs are more metal then punk) but they are definitely one of my favorite bands.
