I'm 6' with size 12 shoes.  I'll go anywhere from 8.5-9+, popsicle to non-popsicle shaped decks. I have ACE 44's and as long as I can put them on a board without it being too much of a magic carpet ride, I'll do it.  I got a good deal on ebay for 2 Slave War Pig decks, and those are in the 9.5" range.  Generally, really wide with a 14.5 wheelbase and pretty loose trucks, and I'm happy.

Skated all sizes from 1988 till now, and I think the one thing that makes the most difference to me personally is wheelbase.

If you have short legs a shorter wheelbase board will feel better no matter how wide it is (unless you have like a size 14 foot).
If you're a taller dude and your legs are long, then a longer wheelbase will feel right regardless of width as well.
It's good to play around with all size decks and wheelbases on various things, not just one thing like street or tranny, bowls etc.
It's alot about concave too. I feel a flatter board feels wider (more foot on board feel)...and vice versa.
