picked up some supplies

the only one i've tried before is the Mongo, which is actually really fucking good.  never knew anything about Port Brewing before but recently had their Wipeout IPA and Mongo and they're both excellent.  there should be a "beer you're drinking" thread

port brewing kills it, they are the beer side of the "pizza port" chain in the north SD/south OC area. they also are somewhat affiliated/connected to lost abbey. both brew houses share the same headquarters (which is the former location of stone brewery before they blew up). its not quite a girl/chocolate thing, but kind of.

that's interesting.  it looks like port brewing is up in San Marcos.  is that the new headquarters?  do they still brew at all down south?

my dream is to take a skate / brewery road trip through northern cal soon.  seems like a mecca of beer

sorry for the huge picture but i had this last night and it was really good. it was smooth with a small finish of watermelon that i thought was pretty proper. not overbearingly sweet at all. can't wait to try it like this

oh yeah and thanks to whoever posted that list of the top beers, i'm definitely gonne look for the ones i haven't tried yet. i hope to find the number one pliny the elder soon, since i live in the bay and its made in santa rosa. anybody know if bevmos got it? or is my hunt not gonna be that easy?

hey man it's a good beer. don't knock it till you try it. if the slice of watermelon on top is too much for you then hey, by all means chug it from the can. that's what I did. but the sound of fresh watermelon with a cold beer sounds better than say an orange or lemon with another hef. (which isn't bad but not really necessary)

I don't know about up north, but in LA there are only a handful of liquor stores that sell it. The places I usually buy it from don't even put it on the shelf, you have to ask for it, then one of the places only sells one per customer, and the other two. It is a little tricky, but just try to find one of the better beer liquor stores around you, they should have it.

This is a collaboration between Stone, Dogfish Head, and Victory brewing company. One of my favorite beers I've ever tasted.

i've had the dogfish head and victory versions of that. those herbs have no place in a beer.

not to be anal but Fullerton and Whittier are not in LA, but thanks for tip.  i've been going to Sunset Beer Company in Echo Park lately.  specialize in craft beer exclusively.  and have beer on tap, or you can pay a corkage fee and drink there.  a liquor store you can drink at.  genius

by the way that Firestone Wookey Jack was amazing.  can't describe it other than it tastes like a cross between Guiness (Guiness in Ireland) and an IPA.  no beer yet, in the states, has been closer to what Guiness tasted like to me in Ireland.  with is ironic since it's not a stout at all but hey

I don't know about favorite but these are pretty delicious. Despite it's name it's pretty mild and not too heavy.

Had a rep come by the restaurant a few months ago when we changed our menu/beer/wine lists. Ordered this on name alone, he was out of samples. Really, really good. And I don't often branch out from my usual beers.

not my favorite, but pretty damn good. if you like peated whisky and chipotle peppers, then this is a good but expensive beer.

Floop, from what I've read of your posts, I believe you would extremely enjoy BottleCraft in San Diego where I live. My friend started it and it's done very well so far. It's basically all craft beer and imported beer that you can sample and drink there, but doesn't have the bar vibe. They have beer to buy to take home and fridges to drink from. You can get a solid beer for 2 bucks which is amazing compared to bar prices. If you ever come to SD, check it out.

all their beers are good, I especially like Mongo, but I've had a problem with over carbonation from them. And even for an unfiltered beer, there's a shitload of yeast at the bottom of those things sometimes.
