I think kicking hard drugs is respected now (like Guy). The whole party/rockstar lifestyle seems much more a superficial image and more like a marketing tool now. I didn't really buy someone's board before because he smoked something I also coincidentally smoked or drank my brand of beer or whiskey. Those guys in the past just seemed to get into some heavy shit because they were hanging out with straight up gangsters and thugs instead of wannabes.

It really is a marketing tool, I remember when I heard about Kelch being a crackhead or Andy Roy being a junkie, that was mind blowing and I know lots of people refused to support them because of it.

"Officers also found that Cory Chrysler, 37, was in possession of steroids and illegal knives"
How crazy does a knife have to be to be illegal? Cory definitely ripped. It is strange to think Consolidated used to be a top board company.

I'm pretty sure most, if not all double edge blades are illegal. Or switch blades and silloettes (sp). Its probably a felony in most states. Tough break, I wish the dude the best.

That's one privilege I enjoy as an active duty service member. The ability to buy switchblades (automatic) such as this:
California has some harsh laws for edged weapons.
* Summary: Anything capable of ready use as a stabbing weapon is illegal. All concealed knives are a felony (except non locking folders).
* Max length: chaotic
* Specifically illegal: Switchblades, gravity knives, exotic conceal methods (pen, lipstick, whatever)
* Relevant laws: PC 653K, PC 12020(24)
o Note that interpretations by cops and judges are wildly varied. Police have actually told law-abiding citizens to break the concealment laws, and a judge has deemed a blunt-point knife (Spyderco Mariner) a stabbing weapon.
* Quirks: Pens may be illegal (potential stabbing weapon).
* Local restrictions:
o Los Angeles
+ Three inch limit for open carry without a good explanation.

You people confuse me. People dont become gangsters because its a fun past time. People become gangsters because they want the cash to have the party/rockstar lifestyle and be able to feed their family a little bit or they idiolize some idiot. In the 90s it made sense because there was no cash in skateboarding. If you wanted to live the life a little bit you probably had do some business to get the extra cash. Its 2012 and now it doesnt really make any sense. Why would you try being a gang dude if youre already making the cash? Thats just stupid. Do you think young jeezy still sells drugs? So im not surprised there is no andy roy. Would seeing some guy from MS-13 be a pro skater while doing stuff on the side and then having that be in interviews or ads somehow be more authentic than some undeage kids who probably thinks partying and drugs are fun being documented the same way? Probably not. Both are marketing. Its the same thing.
As a viewer of skateboarding media im dissappointed there isnt some gangster-ish dude on a good company but im not going to pretend that marketing some hood guy is more real than seeing a bunch of kids hocked up on drugs and too much beer.
