yeah, that's the foundation here in atl. it's been built on for a few years and it's seriously the best slab-type spot i've ever seen (and many others from around the world). the owners of the property found out about it and shut it down with barriers and razor wire fencing. thomas taylor from stratosphere (and a crew of OG's) lobbied like a sumbitch and somehow got the city to buy the land from the owners and turn it into a city park. it's not done yet, but they're gonna rip it out and put in a proper park setup that'll be the only skatepark in atlanta city limits. the new design looks fresh and we've been to two design meetings so far. STOKED.

don't worry though. there's more underground spots here that people are building on, i'm just not at liberty to talk about them due to the "locals only" non-disclosure agreement. otherwise known as the "fuck yo friends" clause.

theres a decent jersey barrier in my city, but some nerds came in and trie dto "fix" it even though it was fine, and made it really mellow and lumpy.

But yeah Tom rips, skated with him at Marsh Creek recently, the whole time he was talking about how much the park sucked though haha.

I was never a fan of the Red River slab. The Dallas Nightclub slab was the best of those types of spots. I was pretty bummed how quickly the ledges we built at the Lizard ditch were demolished.

We use standard quick crete and water. We have started to chip away existing concrete in order to make the base flush and less likely to chip. The Austin High transitions were free hand with a trowel. Whenever we make a full quarter pipe like the one below, we build forms/ fill the forms with backfill/ then add concrete to the top. You trowel the finish and use a straight edge wider than your obstacle to stay true to your form.

Our local DIY Park just got teared down. It was special in that way that it was in the centre of the city... It was really close also that it would have gotten the position of a official skatepark.. fuck it! next summer we are gonna build it again! WAMMA!

i do remember that place.  i spent a good amount of my adolescence there and it brings a tear to my eye to see it here.  thank goodness they put some skate spots around the museum that replaced it.

a homie and i were building this spot at a place that has been abandoned for well over 10 years. that is of course until we got rolled for it. it may be hard to see but we set up a little double sided curved ledge to mani pad(amongst other thing). so we drug those 3 heavy ass fucking blocks of concrete down a sketchy hill and then across 200 yards off grassy field. after that we took 6 full sized bags of concrete, a 5 gallon bucket of full gloss exterior paint and about 20 cinder blocks. it took a month to settle on what we wanted to build, and then get everything collected and down to the spot. the day we finally got everything in place, the owner of the property showed up with a camera taking pics of our cars and faces, and threatened arrest if we ever came back. but we aren't discouraged, just smarter for the next time. if you are gonna build something get some help, and crank it out in a weekend or less. lesson learned
