It's been announced a while back that they'd do a tv show about it, and maybe noone cares. But I do, and maybe grimcity does too.
http://www.aintitcool.com/node/45461

Here's some of the first looks at it. I'm hyped to say the least.
However I was hoping they wouldn't just film the issues 1-20 or whatever for the first season. Instead they could've picked up at the arch where the comic currently stands and have made flashbacks or whatever to introduce the characters, or to tell the story backwards from there.
Really excited to see how this turns out.

The comic is in way deep (arch-wise), it would be too hard to try and explain everything that transpired to a mass audience via flashbacks, and leaving bits out would be unfair on everyone watching, fans or not...

Telling everything backwards would really be impossible, but starting off in the new, secure setting would still be really interesting. I, as a fan, wouldn't mind if they left out (or at least didn't mention) bigger parts of the preceeding story.

What makes the comic so good is the whole abyss of human nature/psyche blahblah shtick. So why not make our heros weird at first, then slowly explain how they became what they are now. I'm not saying it'd work out, but I think it'd be an interesting approach.
I just don't know how I feel about watching a series I pretty much know by heart from the beginning. Despite the changes Darabont is making to the script.

Here's a review of the 60 page pilot script Darabont wrote.

bicycle lady from issue 1? fuck yeah.

I wonder how they'd do the Michonne/Governor stuff later on in the series. I found it a little over the top in the comic already...necessary somehow, but unnecessary at the same time.

I ordered the compendium, but ended up reading issues up to 66 before it even arrived. Never regretted buying it regardless. Probably one of my favourite possessions.
These days I even annoy the comic store owner about new releases. He probably hates me because I'm new to the comic game.

I am hyped for this, if they do it right and it looks like they are, its going to be great. Best comic on the stands right now in my opinion.

Oh shit, I've been seeing that image for a while and that didn't even hit me! Good call man!
Sorry for the shitty pic, but for anyone interested:

^the image is a bit bigger if you view it alone

...but you're right in your original post, when I first heard rumors of this on Ain't It Cool I was in semi-chubs glee status and the more they leak out the better it looks. I'm going into this without trying to compare the comic. To me, it would be impossible to make it as great, the typical problem of translating comics/literature into film. I'm just stoked that a quality zombie show is going to be on... I like the big budget attention that the genre has been getting, and this might even push the creators of World War Z to make their shit even more epic.

Stoked, stoked, stoked... I know Hate's gotta be as well. When he visited here to roll around and hang with me and Devil on Enzyte, we spent some time on our zombie defense strategy, haha. I'm not really the type to get into fan-fiction, but between me and Hate I think we could write our own book just with posts we've made in here.

Anyway, I WANT THIS SHOW ON YESTERDAY!

Edited to repost Zombie Doug Brown since he was a pretty recent creation:

Yeah, I figure the whole area between east Texas and NC will be the first section of the country to clear up in case of outbreak. Weather in the south will make them degrade faster, and everyone's got guns.

Fan fiction again, fuck.

Semi OT!

Speaking of quality zombie tv shows, there's a good British one called Dead Set.

"During a fictional series of Big Brother, a zombie outbreak occurs, but the house-mates are unaware of the impending doom outside of the Big Brother House."

Surprised about the lead role and like Alan said it would be terrible to use flashbacks.

I love this comic so much.  The story arch where they have to fight against the settlement of other survivors is fantastic.

I agree. Alan should've never suggested telling the story backwards. it wouldn't work with such a complex story.

I don't even have a handbag. And Guys don't usually wear handbags. It seems to me that would be a really effeminate thing to do and, to be frank, on a messageboard like this, I think it's also frowned upon.
You're putting me in a pretty bad spot by insinuating I have one. No hard feelings though, I just needed to point it out.

Surprised about the lead role

...appearance wise he's a surprise, he looks like a young Kenny Loggins in the books.

There's another Zombie pic from IMDB... mirrored it:

...Michael Rooker may (should) be in it, but he's not on the IMDB cast list and it isn't clear who he'd be playing, but that's based on a Twitter post:
http://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/TheDealio/news/?a=18994

Another random w/some zombie makeup:
