To me, being good means to be  able to adapt to whatever is in front of you. Sometimes you have to be spontaneous and make quick decisions. Like let's say that you're cruising down the sidewalk and some rotund European looking codger with a walrus like mustache is watering his lawn. Upon seeing you clickety clacking down the sidewalk with your youthful arrogance destroying the tranquility of the quiet neighborhood he grimaces fiendishly. As you approach he pulls his hose taut making a tripwire  for you. With the agility of an impala you deftly leap over the hose while your board continues it journey beneath the would be booty trap thereby thwarting his dastardly plot. Upon your roll away you shoot back a devil-may-care glance and brandish a roll of Mentos, the Freshmaker. Suddenly, his mood changes from dour to one of bemusement as he thinks "You've won this round, you impish little scamp!"

Being good at skateboarding is like the Supreme Court's definition of pornography.  "You know it when you see it."

I don't expect some super tech street skater to do an fs invert in a pool and I don't expect some pool ripper to do crazy ledge combo tricks, but both are rad.

I think its all about where you are in skating, what comes easier and harder to you all comes into play. Things that come easy to me aren't that impressive to me, things which I struggle with seem more impressive.
Also, I have always had personal ideas of what it took for me to be "good," and every time I get to that point, I realize its not that great, and come up with a new standard for what it takes to be "good." First I thought if I could kickflip I'd be "good" then if I could grind a bench, then boardslide a handrail, then ollie 10 stairs. Admittedly, it was a stupid barometer anyway, since really its a lot more than tricks and stunts that makes a person good at skateboarding. Still, the general idea works though, as we skate and skate different things and get into skating different types of spots and terrain, our opinions will continually change on what we consider "good" to be.
Its always and awkward question to answer when somebody finds out you skate and asks "are you good?" My first answer is always something like "I don't know, I guess." I'm sure 10 year old me would think I am awesome at skating, but as I continue skating, new doors keep opening and I realize how much more there is to do and learn. Its one of the best things about skating. Unlimited potential for progression.
I know when I moved to San Francisco and saw what kind of hills a lot of pros were skating, and my idea of what made somebody "good" changed again.
In conclusion. I know I will be good once I can do switch 360 flips.

its easy to be good at skateboarding, all you have to do is touch the board at the right place at the right time and the board does tricks by itself

there's no correct answer, everybody has their own definition. that's why this place keeps on chugging endlessly. it's also what makes skating cool.

oh man this is a good post

It's about endlessly shralping, and always having something cool to do at a spot.

It's also about trick selection/

I know I will be good once I can do switch 360 flips.

yeah to me , i am the worst switch skater ever so alex carolino whne i saw his part on lordz i was so blown away at how fast he could go switch doing 360 flip and i know al ot of people who think that guy isnt nothing special. but i can ollie really high adn my friends who skate a ton of switch who can do switch 360 flips, some of them say i am better than they are or just as good.

i think to people who DONT skate, i seem way better because i can ollie higher and do lots of consitent regular tricks but my friends will do way harder stuff that takes them more tries to get and its all switch and i just dont think it translates the same unless you really understand it well.
