I was there all weekend, watched the 5 hours of qualifying, (with quite a few hiccups), and the actual contest. I have to say, this contest/format was pretty good. The scoring was shit. I saw some of the gnarliest shit ever get thrown down only to see it get scored a 5.1 out of 10. The highest score for the weekend was a 7.5 and it was down the big rail, and before that the highest was a 6.9. How can you really score a trick on a flat bar or flat ledge on the same level as a 12 stair hand rail/hubba? How gnarly can you really get on that flat bar compared to a giant 12 stair? And what would you have to do to get a 10 on a flat bar, or is it even possible to do something crazy enough on a flat bar to score a 10?
I could go on and on about the wacky scoring, but overall, it was a really good contest, much more fun to watch with one dude going at a time as opposed to a mish mash of carnage all going down at once...
And Nyjah fucking ripped, he just needs to skate faster. But other than that he deserved the win for sure...

Stop Two Lineup: Chris Cole, Nyjah Huston, P-Rod, Ryan Sheckler, and Greg Lutzka, with the tiebreaker being Shane O'Neill.

So the second one is on now - Malto qualified first 'with 100% trick consistency'. Does anyone care?

They should have a webcast or something. Can't get ESPN where I live.

Check out my original thought: Chris Cole does some ugly tricks and has wack kit! I'm super edgy and interesting because of my controversial opinions.

I went to the ontario one today. I have to say this format seems weird and i was skeptical about it but from what i saw today, it works great. malto did not fall EVER. 100% consistency through the entire thing.

I just got back from the contest... what can i say but... WOW!!
Haha.. Dude needed only 2 points to win it... the entire crowd was on its feet while he rode up....
Next thing you now.. the entire crowd went fucking wild. Seriously was so retarded... most retarded thing i've EVER seen at a contest.
I can't let the cat out of the bag... its seriously the most entertaining ender i've ever witnessed.

I agree Kalis, Chad had it. My dad even told me he fucked up, all he had to do was a simple trick.

Although he was consistent, he did the same tricks. It got boring fast watching him. I hate Sheckler but he killed it at the last obstacle, same goes with Chad and Nyjah.

It was pretty cool. Nyjah was getting robbed on a bunch of tricks as usual. Malto was doing back smith, front crook, front feeble, and back nosegrind on every single obstacle. P rod was praying to his hat taking 10 seconds extra every try. Chazz was looking like an idiot bowing his legs out, and wearing a beanie inside(he's still tight, though). sheckler was fucking up, but going huge, and had all the 9 year old girls yelling for him. Greg lutzka was doing front 270 into everything.
I actually didn't like the course that much. Mainly the tech secton, and the big section. That "seat" at the bottom of the ledge made it lame. It made it so they were doing super safe tricks that they could slide/grind long. I could literally do 90% of the tricks that went down on that ledge first try. The big section had that crazy ass drop rail that no one but nyjah did anything crazy on. I don't think they should ever have something like that at a contest. No one skates that regularly, so everyone was scared to skate it except nyjah. P rod tried nollie crook twice and was like fuck that.
Overall it was tight. The scoring system makes it seem like a basketball game, the way they keep going up and down in the standings. It was super tight at the end. Chazz ortiz is a damn choke artist, no type of killer instinct. He's like lebron at crunch time.

I know Nyjah can get a lower score because he needs to take a push... you know?
Speed is a factor.
I agree the tech section was pretty weak.
