I really liked the north philly bum story.
I agree that they cut into you. I found myself doing it during a good beltless sessions where I found myself totally on-it except for sweaty pants dragging my ollies down. I would look around the park and find ripped-up shoelaces.
Eventually I got around the diggiing in part by just cinching in adjacent belt loop units around my hips and the front, two at a time; works well, the units are too short for the laces to ride over the edge of the pants.
I saw Kirchart rocking the frontal loop shoelace belt a couple of weeks ago, you can't front on that, except for the weird haircut he had: a floppy fauxhawk mcSqueeb kindathing.

Almost marketed them as belt too, with almost logo at tip. "It just look like shoelaces"  that was funny

It's been said but shoelaces work better because you can tie them exactly as tight as you need. No pre-determined holes so if you eat one doughnut you can release the belt accordingly  Smiley

i use them everyday. works fine for me and its not as bulky as a belt. in no way i can see it as a chain wallet. shoelace belts are efficient.

trendy and gay mostly
How can it be trendy when skaters have been doing it since the early 90's?
that's like saying tight pants can't be trendy because there have been some skaters wearing them the whole time....

No that is different, only certain skaters wear tight pants and you would be hard pressed to find me a photo of a skate from 1993 wearing tight pants, but I am sure you could find lots with shoelace belts.

so are chain wallets if it falls out of your pocket its still securely attached to your belt, like pinning mittens to your jacket

I like them simply because it gives me another option when I get dressed. If I am wearing baggy pants then I use a belt and with fitted pants or cords I usually go with a shoe string. I presonally don't think there is anything wrong with jumping on a trend. I guess there are people out there that kid themselves into thinking there style is 100% their own, I am not one of those people.
