Man that vans shit sucks.  You can tell they are going for an Airmax 1 vibe on the toe on that one. 

Vans makes some cool shoes and footage of people skating black halfcabs will always hold great nostalgic value but they are getting to be sort of corny at this point.  I've just been trying out other non-skate brand CVOs instead of getting eras or authentics lately (or just buying HUF) and its much more fun.  Plus I don't have to think about how I'm wearing the same brand of shoes as 80% of the goofs at school.

Its also worth mentioning that the quality of the shoes that matter in their line (the "classic" ones) have steadily gone down since the VF corporation buy out.  The price just keeps going up for lower quality product.

it does b/c he is such a unique individual and really needs to stand apart from the crowd...also 80% of all dorks wear vans, nike, adidas, converse and dc...seriously there isn't really much else out there that isnt some sort of shitty rip off design

Well, before that VF buyout Vans was mostly making shitty cupsole's in the early 2000's. IF anything, the vulcanized resurgence was only really pushed in the last 6 or so years after the VF cashout. Probably along with "80% of the goofs at school" you weren't skateboarding then, so I'm gonna go out on a limb and doubt you can speak to the decreasing quality in the "classics" line.

End of the day it sounds like these shoes aren't even being sold to core skateshops, more of a mall/zumiez demographic.

Hah yeah it seems like I'm pretty concerned about it but I was just drinking and ranting last night. Regardless of what type of shoes they were "mostly" making I'm pretty sure vans was still making/known for their 'classics' in the early 2000s.  In old logic videos and 411s there always seems to be the one guy skating half cabs or old schools while everybody else is wearing tanks.  I've been skating for 13 years  and ended up hanging onto and sometimes wearing my first pair of authentics that I got in '02 or '03 .  I also found a few pairs of oldschools that were made ten plus years ago and had been sitting in a warehouse a while back.  The difference in quality is surprisingly noticeable. My first job was working in one of those vans stores right after they got bought out and in 2 years prices went up 3 times and the shoes themselves seemed cheaper and cheaper.   I still have pairs of vans that I wear I'm just not that into buying them anymore and its funny how they've become part of a uniform for people my age.  You can look into a crowd of 100 people and more than half are wearing the same pair of shoes.

that shoe is so sick. the black and the white ones look amazing. not digging the burgundy ones, though. theres too much going on with the lighter red sole and the pattern on the mesh-sidewall, they almost look like a different shoe to me.
