Just because you get a job in the skate industry doesn't mean you'll like what you're doing. I love beer and I don't always like my job selling it.

obviously your best bet is to become pro. heres what you do, when theres a demo close to you, skate harder than any pro there. snake them, dont respect them whatsoever. one up their tricks, etc.
that shows them that you are capable living in the dog eat dog world that is pro skateboarding.
its like beating someone up the minute you get in prison, no pro will want to mess with you and every company will want you to ride for them after you win a demo

FINISH SCHOOL.
Jobs in "the industry" are still jobs and have their ups and downs just like every other industry. You will be sadly disappointed when you see how few of people running skateboarding actually skate or even give a fuck about skateboarding.
Point being, finish school and allow yourself more options in life.

Go to a trade show, there are plenty of jobs available. Most are in the "blow" and "hand" field.

to add to this, the only people that make consistently good money are people that work for cons/adidas/nike.
graduate college and you'll most likely make more money and you won't have to mix skateboarding with all of the bullshit that comes with working it, such as the dipshit snowboarders that work in it.

Contact a low budget company, ask to be an intern since they probably have no money to hire some random kid, hope that they at least hook you up with free product, sell the product to kids at the skatepark but tell them that you're sponsored by the company instead of interning for them just to have a cooler appeal. If all goes well they should keep you as regular and start paying. If not, go on Slap and talk about how lame that company is.

Skate all the time, and when you skate never have the attitude that you want to get in. There will always be people that think how he's dick ridign or what ever. But just do your own thing, there are more people who respect that IMO, then people who hate on it.

don't get a job in something you care too much about unless it's legit. otherwise you'll ruin it for yourself.

That and finish school, there are about three dudes I know that did well after quitting school.
And be prepared to have a few bubbles burst, but all in all it is kinda cool to work in "the industry"

There's jobs in the skateboard industry? I was under the impression that it was all done as volunteer work for the pure love of the lifestyle. According to many topics I've seen on this very website, No one should make any kind of profit off skateboarding.

Helmet: check
Kneepads: check
Wristguards: check
Bible: amen
Show up to a demo put on by a church or youth group.
Walk up to the course and say: "Hi, my name is ____ _____, and I'm here to skate."

This. Get on the mailing list... but if you want to read some depressing, maddening, hair pulling shit... register in the forums they have (that barely anyone posts in). It's so full of corny fucks that it saddens me that many of them have jobs in the industry. I registered just to read these moronic fucksticks... depressing, yet comedic gold at the same time.

Working in a warehouse is working in a warehouse. Being a receptionist is being a receptionist. They are low-level bitch jobs. Without a solid skill set you're going to have a hard time turning those jobs into anything fun/rewarding. In which case you might as well be stacking kleenex boxes at Wal-Mart.
Good luck but be realistic.

working within skateboarding, i find, drains your desire to skate. i worked at skate warehouses for years and was over exposed to too many "cool guys" for my liking. i would strongly recommend pursuing your school work. i find it much more rewarding going to a job that has nothing to do with skateboarding having your mind set on something else all day, then having the relief of going to skate afterwards.
it's full of old bitter washed up small time skateboarders trying to hold on to a dream they should have left behind years ago.

if you really love skating that much and you know that much about it, take out a loan from the bank and start a business. you must have some talented friends if you are at all talented yourself and figure out something you all would like to do and figure out how you can use everyone's skills best. write up a solid business plan. if you aren't prepared to do all this stuff then you probably aren't serious enough about it. the plan has to be detailed as in day to day for the first entire year of what you would be doing every single hour of the day.

That and bros, snowboarders and hot chicks. The skateboard industry is 10% people who actually skateboard and 90% people who "used to skate". You meet reps for brands and there repping legit companies but cant even stand on a skateboard.
Its especially pathetic in Canada.
There are however a handful of very respectable people in it who still rip and have skateboarding's best interests in mind.

I think a lot of the industry jobs beside from being a warehouse guy, are 24/7 jobs that you basically live in. No actual hours, you're doing stuff as they are happening. So don't do to the kitchen if you can't stand the heat and the fact that you might get locked in for awhile...
