Saw Carl Shipman at a contest at the Newburgh skatepark upstate NY...he had the highest frontside flips I had ever seen! There were alot of kids at this contest too...huf, stevie (he was still a little kid), keenan, oyola, etc but carl shipman was KILLING IT!

Curtis McCan was also at the first Brooklyn Banks contest (the one in the old big brother) but he didnt skate at all...

i give the uk credit for having SKATEBOARDERS.  not a bunch of fashion fag look how fresh i have so many tattoos and am wearing black tight pants and can frointslide flip but not much else kooks.  america has more rock stars, and america has more stuntmen, but when you look at UK pros they are a bunch of guys you would love to go and skate with who are doing it because they care, most american pros (and industry people) are just on some ego trip, being cooler than everyone else.  on that note, that qqualifies almost everyone on these boards, so never mind.  shut up and skate.

Ha, ha - you should see where I live, there's only a couple of local carparks and that's it. You have to travel if you want to skate anything half-decent, and even then a kerb on any American sidewalk is better. But it's not that bad....honest.

chris, thats a load of shite, our county is a goldmine!

adaptability, heart and a sense of humour are key in this country, you got to be able to skate anything and everything because the surfaces and the weather conspire against you, always. it also means the tumbleweed, 5-minute wonders get quickly rinsed out of skateboarding after a healthy dose of british winter too so if someone is down for skateboarding, they're down because they're commited to it.

i don't know, same probably applies to a million other places too

You'll have to get up here, we're becoming the Oregan of the UK, however, there's some amazing parks, but they really are in the middle of the fucking nowhere, litteraly, just in random fields, near nothing, takes ages to get there, basically a complete waste, if they'd put them in the city, it would be fucking crazy, but the country sides nice on the way

But fucking winter, it's not the snow or rain, it's the fucking damp, nothing dries, it could be sunny and warm, the pavements are damp, for months, fucking annoying, it eats into your bones, fog, damp, wet, leaching the life out of, so ollie/flat ground training in the most depress junkie filled carpark on earth - AHHHH winter another year

Sorry but that's complete bollocks. As I said "it's not that bad", but it's not that good either. Where I live there is practically nothing to skate, and you have to travel if you want to ride anything decent. Not withstanding  the weather and confrontations with "skate-unfriendly" types. I've skated plenty of decent parks/street spots in the UK and abroad, and believe me it gets tiresome not having something good locally.

Take London, it's taken years for a proper indoor skatepark to come to fruition, earlier parks like "Ewer Street" and "Spitalfields" were so fucking cool...a focal point with so much rad shit going down. And again, many rippers gave up after certain places closed, so I think it's pretty vital that London, for example, keeps it's share of spots and hopefully a new park.

I'm not slagging off the UK or anything, but it's worth keeping in mind that we could do far better in terms of spots.

A lot of Brit skaters tend to show a little personality in their skating, that's why it's appealing even if it's not up to par or whatever.  At the end of a session if theres a little bit of culture, community, or outside influence, that shit can show through in the pushing.  Think of how many generic parkrat stuntkids come out of pre-fab suburbia arizona, southern cali, midwest, or wherever.  however cliche it is to say, but were all products of our environment
