this was on the news the other day and a bunch of people were jizzing themselves about it. i was telling my gf that i really hoped it wasn't him. would people not value the art if it was made by some random guy? reminded me of his movie, Exit Through The Gift Shop. art fans/critics/buyers are fucking stupid.

Yep, there's that overrated complaint again. I like his shit not because of the technical aspects of it, but because of his perspective and the way his stuff tickles me inside. That Mickey molesting vegas billboard is a perfect example of that. Funny thing is that one doesn't even really look like him to me (might be though, I'm no art expert) but I like it either way.
Basically, a lot of the arguments on here work for an obey/sheppard fairey, but I think Banksy's shit is just a step above. Also the fact that despite the fame he still maintains his anonymity is admirable.

yeah, almost every graff artist considers stencil work the same way skateboarders look down on rollerblading, but bansky's stuff is pretty admirable imo. charlie brown is hilarious. I love smoking and pumping gas.. it freaks people out!

that Lush video is sick as fuck, but about wheat pasting and stencils and the simplicity. It doesn't matter how technical it is, the fact that these people go out and put shit up to make the city less bland and boring is enough to get over it. All street artists are awesome and admirable...minus those dumb ass gang and toy bombers.

The thing I like more about wheat pasting or i guess stencil art too is that people who aren't into it might actually take a second look at it. Most of the graffiti in cities are just dumb kids looking to fuck things up with paint pens and spraypaint. A wheat paste can be more thought out and make people wonder what the fuck it's supposed to be, just like sheppard fairy said in gift shop about how people wonder at first if its some sort of advertisement or something.  I dunno. however I do like knowing who writes what and seeing where they've been, that's all I get out of people tagging.
