ok, so i have this huge plantar wart on my foot. it didn't bother me for years, but 6 months ago it started to hurt as fuck. so far i've cut it out with a exacto knife two times, rubbed it away with a nail file, and i've used various tinctures. right now i'm on the ductape method (http://www.warts.org/duct-tape-wart-removal.html). it seems to work as all the other methods did, but that damn thing keeps returning after 6-8 days.
any suggestions?

not that anybody cares, but shit got worse on friday when i went camping. a hornet stung me in the other foot when i set up my tent. the thing is swollen like a rolled ankle, plus it is itchy as fuck. i also received i a nice wound on my ringfinger when i had a few beers and checked if the marshmellows are done yet. (they were)
so far life seems more dangerous than skateboarding.

does slap have any favorite remedies for our most common ailments? shinners, hippers, swellbows, gashed palms, road rash?

once i had to drain my own swellbow in the sink. fuckin rad.

For bruises I've heard that arnica ointment speeds the healing process.  I haven't tried it though because so far I've been more patient than willing to spend money on bruises.

So, either late July or the very beginning of August, I ate shit bombing a hill. Whatever, scratched up my leg quite a bit, and I felt like I bruised my palm or something. No big deal.


Now it's the middle of September, and my palm kills more than ever. If I apply any sort of pressure to it, say picking up something with some weight, or simply doing a push-up, it hurts pretty badly. Not to mention how fucking bad it feels when I fall skating and catch myself with my hands. Way more than a simple bruise would cause, especially well over a month after I initially hurt it.

need to bump this.

has anyone here suffered ankle impingement? or has/had bone spurs? if so did you need surgery or was physio enough to get you back skating?

i have been doing physio and on my next visit i'll find out whether i have to keep doing physical therapy or surgery to shave off the bone spurs. i hate the waiting game.

Do you guys have advice on healing a sprained ankle? Its been a month since i hurt it and havent skated since. Most of the swelling is gone and i can walk fine but  it still hurts  when i move it to the left, the same way i rolled it.

go to a physio, or find some stretches/exercises to do. and wait until it's all good, don't rush it. strengthen it with resistance bands, hopping, keep it moving, etc. go swimming.

so, has anyone had bone spurs develop in their feet? i've going to see a surgeon in about a week. physio helped but it's not going to be enough if i want to skate properly again.


EDIT: does anyone here skate with an ankle brace? my physio tried to sell me one the other day. i tried it on and there is no way i'd be able to skate with it. it's way too bulky and uncomfortable, i could barely fit my foot in my shoe and it felt as if i would roll my ankle worse. fuck that, i'm just going to keep wearing shoes with support and keep them tight.

I've got bursitis in my elbow, I think.. either that, or an abscess. It's numb and bumped-up and gooey. I've landed on it a lot/continue to land on it a lot. Should I get it drained? Or just let it sit there? bitchbitchwhinewhinemoanmoan

Unless you have sever damage to the ligaments or muscle in and around your anke skating regularly with an ankle brace on will only help to weaken the joint, they work as a recouperative aid but only inconjunction with strengthening exersizes to build the joint back up.

Wearing them constantly will do more harm than good. IMO.

I had a really good one before I lost it but it was amazing. It actually made skating gaps and shit more comfortable since my ankle was so stable. It was really protective but not restrictive at all. So yes you can skate with a brace, you just have to find the right one.

Busted my knee up a month ago, got a bruised bone from it. Like a genius I never put ice on it until a few days ago and I already see he difference. It doesn't swell as much and it doesn't hurt as much when I move it after not doing it for a while. How long you guys think I'll be like this before I can go roll again? Whenever I've tried so far I wake up the next day paying for it- it swells up and it hurts to bend etc.

I rolled my flicking ankle like 7 months ago. It was horrible, was out for like 2 months. The shit was still hurting after that. A few weeks ago, same exact shit happens. Same trick and everything. I iced that one right away though. Anyway, it healed a hell of a lot quicker than last time, but now, for like the past 5 days, I've had really weird heat flashes in that heel. I don't know what the fuck it is. Anyone ever have this?

I've rolled my left ankle a million times, the worst being one time like a decade ago where I couldn't walk from the spot and it swelled into a giant mess. I didn't have medical insurance at the time, so I just stayed off it for a bit... then I braced it and started skating again. I basically ruined my ankle doing that, and ever since it's been totally floppy, sometimes buckling just when I am walking. I can't skate without a brace and flip tricks are really difficult.

I finally have insurance, so I got a referral to an ankle specialist. My PCP thinks people get a lot of unnecessary surgery, so he told me he was sending me to a doctor who would only suggest it as a last resort. I'm pretty bummed because the ankle specialist flexed my ankle for like three seconds and was like, "We'll do an x-ray and an MRI, but you need surgery." He said ligaments don't grow back... they're basically elastic bands that provide stability and once they tear or lose their elasticity, that's it... then he said I had weak ankles to start with (after looking at my right ankle, which I never really roll) and that I had completely fucked the ligaments in my left ankle, not in so many words.

The surgery is obviously elective. He said if you do the recovery right, it can be like a new ankle, but that's six months minimum of surgery>cast>brace>rehab. I'm not really sure what I want to do. I'm 34, and it's not so much the recovery time that worries me, but more the chance I'd go through this whole thing and it wouldn't fix my ankle. I have one of those lace-up braces with the three velcro straps-- I was worried that skating with that thing on for so long basically just stopped my ankle from getting stronger, but the ankle specialist said that when the ligaments are this far gone, the brace isn't stopping you from building strength, it's basically just giving you the stability that you'll never naturally get back. He said that if I'm wary of surgery, just stick with the brace.

We didn't talk much about the surgery because I hadn't had the MRI yet when I went, but the gist of it was that they go in and vacuum out all the cartilage and bits of whatever that are floating around in there (my left ankle is permanently at least 1.5x the size of my right one), then they put a post in the bone and somehow bond what's left of the ligament to that, so you get that tension back.

Anyone here had ankle surgery to try and fix ligaments?

Glad you're having good results, man. I have to get some billing stuff sorted out (some computer problem made my insurance think I didn't have a referral so I got direct billed for the MRI, x-ray, and doctor's visit... really annoying), but I'm probably going to be seeing the doctor again in a week. I'm pretty sure my ankle is too far gone for physical therapy to do much, but I'll see what the doctor says. If I'm covered for the surgery and it's even an option, I probably wouldn't be able to do it until next spring, which I guess could have me skating late summer. That's not bad.
