There's already a movie thread but I thought I'd give this a go.
Documentaries by Adam Curtis, John Pilger, and Naomi Klein are good for political stuff. There's probably a documentary about any subject you can think of, so post your favorites or ones that deserve our attention.
Dark Days: great film about people living in abandoned tunnels.

The Shock Doctrine. naomi Klein has an interesting take on economics.

I thought this was a good film on arm wrestling but then I am a fan of Over The Top. It's a good watch though about something that people aren't too familier with:

Thank you for posting these, I got really into them. I love documentaries like these three because I get to experience things that I don't know nearly anything or enough about. They were also really beautifully shot and well edited.
The Archive
got me down though because it sucks that we live in a society that can't appreciate stuff like that and the fact he can't even sell them for an astoundingly low price than what they're worth sucks.
Anyway I love this thread, keep it up dudes.

Good post Bullet. I'd forgotten about those documentary shorts - the same guys also did this one about pool skating -
Cannonball
Adam Curtis's
The Power of Nightmares
is savage, particularly if you're any way interested in the Cold War, US foreign policy and the last 10 years spent at war in the Middle East. Definitely worth taking the time to watch Curtis' other documentaries,
The Trap
and the somewhat cerebral
The Century of the Self.
Year Zero - The Silent Death of Cambodia
is close to 30 years old now and as far as I can tell, is one of the first major investigations in the popular media about how the Khmer Rouge managed to get into power before the wholesale slaughter of its citizens. Compelling viewing.
I'm a massive fan of Prof. Jim Al-Khalili, particularly the excellent and enlightening
The Secret Life of Chaos,
I've watched this loads - it's largely about chaos theory and the inherent unpredictable nature of the universe and everything else in it. The more recent mind-melter Everything (about relativity and the massiveness of the universe) and Nothing (string theory/quantum physics) is equally riveting, if you happen to be into this sort of thing -
http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/everything-and-nothing/
.
Loosely related to the chaos theory side of things and also neatly tying in with Adam Curtis' The Trap is High Anxieties - The Mathematics of Chaos, which traces how modern market economics is fundamentally flawed from the start due to how little we/policymakers understand about the maths which run it.

My mate showed me a documentary today called The King of Kong, in which two men compete for the Donkey Kong World record. It's weirdly compelling to the point where I actually cared about how good a forty-something year old man is at an arcade game.
The King of Kong : A Fistful of Quarters ( 2007 )
There was also a really good documentary on in the UK the other week about the feud between Banksy and Robbo, can't find a streaming link but
here's
the torrent for those of you that have Demonoid accounts.
Edit: Just found another link for those that don't have Demonoid,
here
. You have to download the torrent file from Mediafire first, as Channel 4 keep on deleting those found on most of the torrent search engines.

I had to watch this in film class. Its about this crazy dude who wanted to live with bears and make an epic documentry about it. the story is told by the 2 people who knew him best. Its so trippy becuase the main character seems like the type of dude owen wilson would play, and the story is so absurd that you think it would be fake but its 100% real. 100% authentic footage

king of kong is such a great film. its seriously entertaining even though its centered around a 20ish year old game. PS Brian Kuh who makes several appearances in the film is such a fucking kiss ass weiner.
a friend showed me this, modify. its about body modification. piercing tattoos and way way more extreme stuff. its a fascinating film but some of the content is seriously fucking graphic.

watch "word wars". its a documentary about pro scrabble players.. pretty awesome. some dudes just live and breath it and practice nonstop and some of the other dudes are just naturally brilliant and kill it without trying.
in this one part theres 3 dudes in a hotel the night before the national championship and 2 guys are practicing in the hotel all night but another dude goes and gets a hooker haha. then he shows up ten minutes late to his game the next day and still slays the guy he plays.

This documentary about the financial crisis is pretty good. It talks about financial interests in the US and how they've taken over government.

As far as I know, there aren't any geographical restrictions on 4od.com
http://www.channel4.com/programmes/road-to-las-vegas/4od
I've just finished watching this. In summary, it's the antithesis to the american dream.
As for the documentary's production, the 1 hour and forty minutes doesn't really do the story justice. It would also have been interesting to cast more of an insight into the childrens' perspective. Saying that, I would highly recommend it.
