the showers always seemed like a sketchy idea to me in the first place. what kind of parent would be ok with that? i'd feel pretty uncomfortable about having my young childern be in that situation without me anywhere around. just the idea that your 10 year old is going to be showering around grown ass men should raise some flags IMHO. and it's not some hypothetical situation for me. we don't leave my daughter alone at this play time class that she goes to because the teachers are good but male and would have to assist on bathroom breaks. that's a "heeeell no..." shit, we've even got key locks on our kids doors and anytime anyone stays with us they are locked at night to make sure no one but us goes in. that's anyone, especially family who are the most likely perpitrators of this kind of thing. it's actually harder than you might think to raise kids and protect them from abuse because preditors usually take advantage of family and friendship relationships to build trust and groom you and your kid.  more parents should take that shit serious but they wont because they are too afraid to shake things up, whether it's with coaches, preist, friends or family.

I don't think letting kids shower after a certain age around adults is a big deal as long as a parent/guardian is around. And to say that parents who do allow that should prepare themselves to take their kids to therapy sounds like fear-mongering/condescension to me. I see no reason why those kids have to get naked though. Like, if they're rising off after swimming at a community center/park district, and adults are showering, I don't see a problem with that. But I also don't foresee myself locking my kids in their rooms if an adult family member is spending the night at my house or not letting my kids go to a daycare because the people running it are men. Please don't take this as a dig or insult Sleazy because when/if I become a parent, my opinions might change, but those reactions just seem odd to me. I never experienced them as a child and no one I knew ever experienced those reactions. Putting locks on your children's door is a little extreme though.  Kids are smart and will start to wonder why you are locking them in their rooms when you have people staying over.  It will probably create fear in them and trust issues with other people.  Wouldn't it be better to educate them about these situations instead of just sheltering them?  That way if something ever did happen they would say something about it, or scream and yell instead of letting it happen.

when they get older yes, it would be better. but my family is young and my daugther is currently 3. she isn't even fully potty trained yet. her saftey is not something that she is capable of handling at this point (it's still my job for a good while) and we definitely have some suspect people on both sides of the family fences. we haven't used the locks yet and get the kids to sleep in our room or have female relatives sleep in theirs when people stay with us as an easy way of making sure they don't get messed with but we had them installed when we moved in so that it would be available as an option if a better one wasn't available in every situation. we definitely don't keep our kids locked up as some are implying, some of you guys have been reading too much flowers in the attic...

your familys might be different than mine and the people i know but every family i've been close too growing up has dirt on it. i've have multiple siblings who were molested by family members (different people each time) who snuck in their room while we were all there staying with them. that shit happens all the time. and in a lot of the cases i've seen it destroys the person it happens too pretty much for life. run your families how you want based on your experiences and priorites and i'll continue to run mine based on mine.

So a male family member or friend stays at your house and you lock the children in their room, or at least have that as an option, but if a group of family members or friends stay at your house, you ask one of the females to sleep with the kids?
