Hi guys, thought I'd throw in a shameless plug for a project started by Jorn Aagaard, Aksel Overskott and myself in 2010. Dank is a biannual skate mag published in Oslo, Norway.

We'd all worked in journalism/design for a while, and decided to make a skate mag a bit out of the ordinary. We want Dank to be an argument in favor of printed media, which means that we've cut everything that blogs and websites will inevitably cover faster and better than us. The shortest features in Dank run at about six pages, and we've allotted a lot of space to photos. There are no reviews, columns or write-ups on events that, come release, will already have become irrelevant.

So far, we've published two issues, each running at about 120 pages. The first issue was released in April, the second in September.

The first issue had extensive interviews with Nick Jensen, Pontus Alv, local skater Eirik Ballo, Lev Tanju of Palace, the makers of Machotaildrop, No Age, plus other features.

The second issue (sold internationally with a supplement featuring translations of all stories into English) has interviews with Nestor Judkins, local skaters Jon K?re Skiple and Jan Henrik Kongstein, Vivien Feil and Soy Panday of Magenta, Chad Muska and Greg Hunt.

Dank is made on our spare time. The mag is put together by contributions from friends and friends of friends. So far, we've been fortunate enough not to lose any money on it. Dank is a really fun project to work on, and we'll hopefully be able to keep it up.

If you're interested in the mag (or might be interested in buying a copy), check out www.dankmag.com. If you live in Austria, Japan, South-Korea, UK, Germany or Norway, you can pick up a copy from one of the shops listed on the site.

Thanks for reading this!

I bought the first issue when I was in Oslo, out of nowhere, and I was really pleased with it, the quality is amazing, both the design and the paper. I saw another on sale in London, but unfortunately it was expensive for my pockets. Still, respect.

I'm currently on a student exchange in oslo, and I stumbled upon the second issue of your magazine while shopping with my girl at the henrik vibskov store. Needless to say, I bought it on the spot. Great design, layout and photography. As a foreigner, it was also an awesome way to get a first glimpse of some nice oslo spots.

Would there be any way for me to get my hands on the translation? I'm working on my norwegian but i'm not quite there yet hahaha

Keep up the good work man!

Been wanting a copy of this mag since I first heard about it but I could never justify the $29 shipping to the usa for an $11 mag. Is there any way to reduce the shipping? or are there any USA shops I could order it from?

looks great though.

Shipping out of Norway is really expensive. We've tried to find other options, but at the moment we're stuck with the prices featured on our site. We're looking for stockists in the US. We had some copies of issue 1 available at Autumn, KCDC and aNYthing this summer, they might still have one or two. Also, you could see if ordering from www.flatspot.com is cheaper.

We haven't made one for issue 1. Since it was our first issue we weren't really expecting anyone outside Norway to be interested. We'll be including English zines in every issue from now on.

Buuump. Our third issue came out last week. 128 pages long, featuring interviews with Jake Johnson and 5Boro Norway rider Magnus Bordewick, a lengthy story on Polar, photo-series with Deerman of Dark Woods shot by Alana Paterson and loads of other stuff. Check it out.

You had me sold but like some of the previous posters I balked when I saw the $24 shipping charge.  I think what you are doing is great but I can't pay close to $40 for a magazine without feeling like a dipshit.

Score: Digital Media - 1, Print Media - 0

If you could find somebody in the US to distribute to get around the crazy shipping charge I am sure you'd get more sales.

Did you find any keys after the 1. anniversary/release party? I kinda lost mine and had to fork out $500 just to get into my apartment.. Still worth it!

And this issue, is on par with the previous ones. Great as always.

As threatened, I scooped up a copy.  Nice job on the magazine and it's worth every penny.  The aesthetic is unique and there is plenty of evidence that skating serves as a universal truth and is just as rad in Norway as it is anywhere else.  It's really fucking cool to see such a different perspective and completely foreign street spots ripped apart by an unfamiliar batch of dudes.

Last year I definitely balked on a job offer in Stockholm, Sweden because I didn't want to give up the wet dream of skateparks/spots that I live in now and I couldn't find anything in my research to convince me that the spots would be plentiful and the weather wouldn't blow ass most of the year.   A read through Dank opened up my eyes a little if Sweden is anything like Norway.

The world hasn't seen Viking hesh like this since Lindesfarne (I can't figure out how the fuck this was a make)...

Looking forward to more.

Dank is one of the coolest  names magazine can have.

And one of the reasons why printed media is still better than digital is, you can take it anywhere you want, you can read it on the shitter, on your ride in a bus. Printed also looks and feels better.

Excellent magazine, backing this to the fullest. Loved the interviews with Jake Johnson, Nestor Judkins, Pontus Alv, Jon Kaare Skiple and Magnus Bordewick.

BTW, Bordewicks section in this little 5BORO promo is the beez knees.

Eirik, glad Theories has it because I was actually about to pay the Norway shipping about 2 weeks ago.

I'd really like Theories to get Grey Skatemag too even though they are free. Henry Kingsford was nice enough to mail me the first 3 issues for free even after I offered to pay him through Paypal. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get any more.

I'm totally down to support really well done paper zines like Dank and Grey.

http://www.anzeigeberlin.de/magazine.html is another one that looks good.

Keep up the good work guys!

I've worked on skate zines too and it's a tough business. It's true that the internet has killed print media, but hard work like yours make the zines all that more precious.

I have been working on some skate magazines as well, and im so stoked to see something like Dank come together. We have had a hard time finding the money to put out the newest mag in paper (number 10, link is number 9). Our magazine is a free mag paid by sponsors/ads. Besides that we run a website under the same name, with news and original content (a lot of it was posted on here from CPH pro).

Our latest mag that came out on print is here:
http://www.wdbm.dk/page/wunderbaum9

I wish you all of the best with the magazine, it looks like the quality is fantastic. Making quality content like that is the only way to have a printed magazine in the future.
