I am not sure if this question belongs here or in the general help question but I was just curious about the premise of opening up a skate shop. Growing up skating in the suburbs of Toronto, lot of shops closed down and shops in downtown became more street wear and lifestyle orientated. Also the premise of zumiez entering the Canadian market, I feel like stuff is getting more expensive. My idea is to have an skate shop that is able to have stuff that is more affordable cause most people and kids I know, aren't able to afford a proper board cause prices are higher than of the states'. I guess it is through personal experience that as kid, I never got a proper board and kept saving up a long time to actually afford one. Is there any possible way to actually have a shop that is affordable and can succeed?

depends on your definition of success

if success is getting decent product to the public at a reasonable price then it's most definitely achievable

if success is doing the above and being productive then that's going to be a lot more difficult

Sounds like you want to do it for the right reasons though which is a good start

I feel like if there was a shop that was open to sell just the basics and having a small shop space, I would think that it would be possible. In the days of mall skate shops and etc, who wouldn't like a skater owned skate shop but it comes with uncertainty because you wouldn't have the financial leverage as the big stores would. But I am looking for honest opinions because I have kept thinking about opening my shop and with my recent completion of my Commerce degree; would like to make a career in the direction of skateboarding. But I feel there are way too many risks.
