if you think the issue of race in canada is much different than in the united states you must be delusional. while the issue of race is more 'in your face' in the US, racism runs deep in canada; at times it can be far worse, racial dialogue is completely ignored-we're killing each other out here and no one gives a fuck. when i say america i mean AMERICA.

youre dumb, america consists of not just the united states but canada as well. race is a serious issue relevant to all euro-american imperialist states. i don't know exactly how it is to be black in the united states but i guarantee there are far more similarities than differences. racial profiling is very much alive here, we are under represented in canadian media and politics (definately more so than in the US), and we have similar issues of community violence. the images of black people on television and radio are the exact same images you have in the US; the images of blacks perpetuated by the media work to justify the mistreatment of black people globally. Like i had mentioned earlier, one of the key differences is that the Canadian issue of race is often suppressed-a notable history of slavery, mistreatment of minorities, and subjugation of native people has gone largely unnoticed by canadian society.

also, i don't claim to have any understanding of white culture, but the activities of corporate culture are transparent as fuck, and if you deny that american corporate powers aren't white power structures than you're as ignorant as skatetroll.

im not saying that dialogue between whites and blacks shouldn't be pursued-whites and blacks should work together on these issues (the global community as well). im just saying that white people and black people need to be a little more introspective when dealing with race and consider what we can in for our respective cultures to curb racial prejudice and promote fairness and equality.


with the issue of rednecks; i grew up in a suburb just outside of toronto and ill say that the whole place was overrun by rednecks. i had a high school friend who had moved to canada from Mississippi, he had lived in calgary for a few years and claimed that he felt more racial tension there than when he lived in the south. white people make up the overwhelming majority of canada, especially outside of the big cities. honestly, i avoid going to small towns, i usually stick to the GTA and MTL.

Its different because I'm in vancouver but white people are the minority here, its so incredibly multi cultural, its really awesome actually. There is racism from all of the defined mico communities, but it usually doesn't escalate to violence. Its true for the most part that white people hire whites, indian hire indian etc. It just so happens there are so many people of each race that they can stick together and provide jobs/support for others of the same color. One of our larger cities has its own business directory just for indian businesses. White people would be crucified if they made a white only phone book, but whatever.

You go an hour out of vancouver and its a shitload of farms and small towns, many of which are conservative and seen as similar to the south. Quebec and the maritimes definately are the brunt of stupid jokes/stupid news items.

I'd like to know the race of the people living in that community. In other words, if all/most are white (or) light-skinned, then of COURSE there will be calls to an obvious outsider in the neighborhood!

They don't have a Neighborhood WATCH program because there's never been any problems. If it's mostly a white neighborhood & a black/purple/green/whatEVER color person is hanging around - at NIGHT, wearing a hoodie, then YES - there's gonna be trouble.

(So many "hoodie" protests in our area, saying how the hoodie should not have been brought up & is/was no cause for alarm. 'Course, no one - black OR white - complained when many of our local malls banned them a few years back.) Sensationalism - that's all this has become.

I watched this and people trip so hard on George Zimmerman being able to "Defend himself" when they talk about Martin fighting back, why don't they attribute the same rights of defense to a kid who was walking home to his dad's house to watch basketball and talking on the phone when some dude is following him around carrying a gun? He probably felt threatened as well. It was completely avoidable, too bad Zimmerman is a paranoid maniac.
