i officially refuse to watch any new trailers from now on.  I'm not even going to watch that international launch one.  I want to savor the mystery but it's so hard

Makes it more snake-like. Slips right into his suit! That being said, I'm really hoping these trailers aren't giving too much away.

Reversed Prometheus Audio Puzzle Small | Large

Some audio from the film which was released in reverse. This is it re-reversed. Too fucking stoked for this.

Sweet.

Doesn't sound like Avatar 2: Electric Boogaloo, that's for sure.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT I'M EXCITED. If I can't get anyone else psyched on this movie (I'll be very disappointed if I can't), I'll just have to go and see it on my own. I have very high expectations after the trailers

Anyone already seen this?
It premi?red here on last friday. My friends who saw it told that it was worth it in a movie watching experience way - it is very well made, but there are plot holes and other buzzkillers.

I'm still not sure if I want to go to theatre or wait for a quality release.

Premiered on the 1st here in Norway! I really liked it, and felt that it did justice to the earlier Alien films. But i felt like they cut scenes early throughout the whole movie (directors cut on dvd??), but it really was one of the best movies i have watched in 2012! Go watch it!

Pretty disappointed actually.

Too hollywoody for my taste.

The way the crew is set together. Always a sort of funny guy (Fifield) etc. So sick of it. Nobody would ever bring a dick like that on a expedition, and he did not make it more exciting, only more annoying.
And no expedition would act so incredibly unprofessional, taking helmets off, leaving people alone etc. Wish they kept those parts more realistic, cause there is so much else to make it exiciting.

Also they found the ship almost the second they saw the surface of the planet....

I quite liked it, then again my expectations weren't set too high

there was a ton of loose ends, and as has been said the makeup of the crew wasn't really believable and it was fucking obvious who was going to get it first.

All in all it was worth watching though, and I'll probably see it again on blue ray when it's released.

A directors cut would be sweet though, and although he's said it's not happening I wouldn't be surprised to see one in a while once the Blue Ray sales have started to stall . . . . .

i loved it.

I could see someone thinking some of the large action scenes like the ship crashing near the end being very hollywood and it kind of is but aliens was full of moments like that. and what do you want? do you want it to be another 2001 a space odyssey? honestly the rest of this film is very anti hollywood. a far cry from being commerical or cliche.

In films today we are so used to having everything handed to us and explained using generic movie formula in overbearing detail until the movie holds our hand and says "now are you sure you understand me"? Prometheus doesn't do that. It is told in a way that does not give a fuck if the average movie goer gets it. Whats going on with the engineers and the dna and the creatures is not clear cut explained like the alien life cycle many people know. But its all there, the audience needs to think a bit and come up with their own thoughts and theories. the way the story is told and the ideas it presents are very anti hollywood.

The annoying character archetypes, the funny guy, the asshole etc who are obviously going to bite the bullet first were so downplayed compared to similar characters in other films. A typical scifi or horror these days with these characters types are usually so god damn grating and irritating that it is a relief when they die. in prometheus they felt fine, just people with different personalities. no big deal.

Its not perfect, I didn't like Weylands role popping up out of nowhere near the end of the film. And some of the characters do do some stupid fucking things.

One thing i absolutely loved is that this film completely, totally and utterly negates every single pitiful idea about weyland, our history and the aliens that AVP put forward. Fuck those movies.

The more i think about it, the more i mull over the ideas and themes in this film the more i like it.

im going to disagree, the movie held no room for more thought on the plot, everything was way too delivered to the audience but still trying to tackle huge ideas(god complex, A.I) i could understand if it was trying to be a good sci fi action or thriller but it seemed what the movie advertised with its amazing trailers and underlying ideas was that it was going to be a thought provoking sci fi film, making the final product just strange mis match to watch... and the characters were just like any other hollywood movie, even the main characters werent likable.

in saying that it def had the best special effects ive seen maybe ever

It's impossible to deliver on the promise of a "deep, thought provoking sci-fi story" in a big-name, big-budget franchise film; the studio simply won't allow it on the grounds of saleability. There's no way that this movie could compare to Alien, simply because it was much more expensive to make and needed to be dumbed down somewhat to appeal to larger audiences. Also, Ridley Scott hasn't made much else but hollywood-style bullshit since Blade-Runner, and when old directors start "revisiting" earlier films, you can pretty tell that they've run out of ideas and are just in the masturbatory end phase of their career.

he could atleast got some better writers on board, im mean charlise theron saying to guy peice's character "father" was so cringe worthy and did not ad to the story at all. the main girls cry over not being able to have a child was the same. the whole wayland thing should of been avoided, the make up looked like johnny knoxville in jackass.
also why did the engineers want to kill them? there seemed to be no explanation at all,
why did she try and find them on another planet when the one they encountered try to kill them immediately,
....
....
....
wait i think while writing that i started to maybe understand why, the engineers made humans to be hosts for their bio weapons?(aliens)

anyway the plot holes and shitty writing could have been easily fixed if they spent more time on the script and plot.
I guess i had unrealistic hopes for this movie, using the "it was made for hollywood card" as an excuse for me doesnt really mean much, there have been fantastic hollywood mind-benders as of late.

Holy fuck that was disappointing.

I was so hyped for it, my hype level was on par with Dark Knight Rises, maybe even more.

spoilers

Right from the opening scene and the introduction of "The Engineer" I was bummed. I really didn't like the CGI look to them.

Why they didn't open the film with David going through his routine, which was one of the best parts of the film, I'll never know.

Why were "The Engineers" trying to kill the humans in the first place? They didn't explain this at all, the dude just woke up, David spoke some shit to him and then he killed everyone.

You could see the "Father" line coming a mile away, but it didn't make it any easier to stomach. Seriously what the fuck is the point in that, absolutely nothing.

The music was way off too, it had some heroic Star Trek type shit going on, took you right out of any tension going on in the film.

Need to sleep on it, however gut reaction I really didn't like it, I was way too hyped for it

Some positives about the film.

- The opening "reveal" of the bridge was the same camera movement as the original, that was a nice touch

- Fassbender throughout the movie, and his opening sequence

completely agree. they kept slopping on questions and mysteries without ever answering them. the guy who for some reason can fold himself and turned into a zombie made absolutely no sense. also they never justify their actions, emotions, or objectives...it's just a big open ended guess for the viewer to use their imagination and 'educated sci-fi guess'. i was also bummed on how the ending alien was cgi and not a costume like the original.

visually it's gorgeous though. ridley scott still kills it in that department.

This was the first 3-D movie I've seen and it was absolutely bonkers.  could have focused on the story a little more though

i never thought i'd say this but the 3d visual effects are incredible. the directing and 3d visuals are the saving grace of this movie.
