whatever... it's just a transfer of a company from one non-skateboarder to another non-skateboarder...
what are you talking about?
It's a comment on the lack of skating from Dyrdek. I'm not a skate nerd, but I just check his mindfield part - it's about 1:39 in length and because it's AWS, there is a least 20 seconds of filler. I also remember seeing his game of skate at the berrics... it was pretty pathetic. If I'm wrong, I'll say I'm wrong, but does the guy skate anymore? Seems to busy making TV shows...

Does he skate anymore? Fuck yeah! I've actually watched his Fantasy Factory show and every once and a while
he'll throw down at that indoor skatepark he built.
So does he still "skate?"
Yes, and I'd venture to say that he's still a fuck ton better than anyone lurking this thread right meow

Like I said, I could be wrong. I think I've watched a total of 3 minutes worth of Fantasy Factory (is it even still on?) I just lump him in the group of old pros taking up spots that a ton of young rippers probably deserve - but they're not on Mtv everyday so they don't sell boards.

alien doesn't feel corporate now in any way shape or form. Yet everything rob does is aimed at mainstream america. Just cause someone skates doesn't automatically make them a man of honor. I see this as an ironic death to a great brand.

To be honest, I'm not seeing the difference. Burton may be a "corporation" but it is owned by Jake Burton, who is a singular entity. Rob would basically be following Jake Burton's lead and purchasing DNA to start his own "corporation". I would imagine eventually he would be licensing other brands to be distributed by his new distro, potentially Rogue Status, Young & Whatever that his nephew or cousin does.
If anything it could be really hard to purchase DNA and continue business as usual. Habitat footwear is, I'd assume, done through Burton much like Gravis, and could lose some of their manufacturers in the process.
Who knows. This could be a good thing, or a bad thing. But as it's been said pretty often, Burton has no effect on the daily runnings of AWS and Habitat.

Just because Rob Dyrdek is on TV and occasionally does kooky shit doesn't mean his intentions as a skateboarder aren't pure. He's still this dude

Dude obviously got a great business sense, most of the kids out there buying product in general don't have a clue about who owns what, it's all about image and what brands are 'cool'.

I see this as good thing.
Hell, Dyrdek has been with the Workshop since before some of ya'll were born.
Same with DC, guys made some clever sponsorship choices.
He could easily afford DNA too. No doubt he has shares and trades regularly.

I liked being able to stop by the Burton Store in L.A. and seeing the skate section, it sucks that it will be gone.

i think it would be cool if he had some ownership in workshop, seeing as he's been loyal to them for 20+ years (even more if you count the g&s days), but i think him buying DNA outright would be the eventual death of the brand. i'll probably get a lot of flack for this, but the partnership with Burton seems to be going pretty well. Now if Burton for some reason decided to pull the plug and Dyrdek swooped in to save the day, that would make a lot more sense, but if he's trying to buy it now while things are going good, that puts a lot of risk into the equation, not to mention he's gonna pay a shitload more for the company

Agree with this.
I don't care that the Workshop is owned by Burton, and truthfully have only had a couple boards before and don't plan on buying another until Jake goes pro, but if Dyrdek does buy it, it could easily go two ways. 1) No difference at all, or 2) Dyrdek and the fact that he thinks skateboarding is a full fledged sport will drag down AWS with him, potentially lumping it in with Street League, and whatever other shitty companies he has ties to.

When DNA was skater owned they had a mini ramp there. Now that burton owns it the mini is gone.
May seem like a little thing, but it hurt the soul of the company.
Call me a kook, but I believe all skateboard companies should be owned by skateboarders.
Rob may have done some bitch ass shit to get his money, but I'm glad to see he's finally putting it to good use.

Well everything Rob Dyrdek does removes skateboarding more and more from anything I relate too. Closer to big league football/basket etc etc. Fuck him. I do not trust him with running anything, AWS is probably taking a turn for the worse.
I sincerely wish that skateboarding was not able to make anyone rich.
