ill never understand why everyone thinks you have to be 15 to skate when the only skater they know is tony hawk, whos like 40

also i bet half the comments about "grown men skating" are fat fucks who haven't done any exercise in over a decade

That sucks but like has been said at least he died doing something that he probably loved.

It?s a good idea to take note of the comments at the bottom of the article and the general attitude of your average fuckface citizen.  Keep in mind that these are the same people who are going to make up the majority of the people that you encounter when you skate in traffic and on the road.  They aren?t all that concerned about the fact that an unprotected human being is a soft target and they definitely aren?t expecting or looking out for anything other than other motor vehicles adhering to traffic laws.  That whole deal is why I really don?t bomb hills or skate in situations that throw me into the mix with vehicular traffic.  You are exposing yourself to a lot of low performance humans piloting high performance machines and we don't have brakes.

I can respect that the risk is what makes bombing hills fun and impressive to watch but it?s hard to deny that every time you do it or see it in a video your asshole is puckered just waiting for something to go wrong.  There is a reason we call it ?bombing hills? and not ?cautiously navigating hills?.

The fact that I alone control my success or failure on a skateboard is one of the things that I love about skating and too many dumbasses get thrown into the mix with the addition of traffic.

do you guys think it would be rad or a bummer to have a city that was entirely skateboarders. like no vehicles allowed just either walking or skating places. i know its a completely unrealistic idea but.

Would be like the Netherlands, with all their Bijkes and whatnot-
all those lanes and pathways constructed for those without motors...some bikers with seemingly more rights than pedestrians. Not too shabby.

Less pollution, more spots, people would definitely keep the streets clean.....I'm down.

Having almost been run over by a cop car (no lights, sirens, or indication he was turning down a one-way street), I always cringe when reading shit like this. R.I.P.

this is why i never read the comments under a news story- the people who comment on general news are fools and sociopaths.
futhermore these comments are? an incredibly poor representation of the general population, its mostly people expressing their agendas.

on a more general note; it's a common theory among ? accidemics that people read the news to reaffirm their pre-exisiting beliefs and thus they will comment as such
IE the skateboarder who got hit by the car deserves it for being 'smug' yet the lady who got hit the car goes without mention

although the vic's lack of a fixed adress does raise some red flags

regardless sad story all around
RIP

It sucks that someone died...goes without question.

Here in the city though, especially in the Tenderloin, there are a lot of people with skateboards.
Doesn't mean they're skateboarders though.

A crackhead who's riding around on a board is only a skateboarder to the reporters that covered this incident.

Total bummer. RIP!

The invention of the automobile is probably one of the worst inventions ever.

They kill thousands ever year, cities designed to cater to them suck, they allow for the existence of a shitty unsustainable food system - to name a few.

FUCK CARS, TRUCKS, ETC.

Motorcycles get a pass.

Big ups to trains too!

what was he doing riding a skateboard at 34 years of age!?!

this is america. he should have been working on his third chin and a heart condition.

Motherfucking THIS!
I'm about to turn 37 and I can't relate to people my own fucking age outside of skating and work... and not really all of them at work (my geek crew). Just about everyone I knew in high school and college that I still have some contact with seem so goddamned old to me... I mean, I'm aware of my age number-wise and do all the shit typically associated with people my age (except for the having kids part), but for the most part, they just got domesticated and turned to shit. Or copies of their parents.

None of those hateful shits have a clue how amazing skateboarding is, and I'm glad they don't because then they'd be one of us. Fuck 'em.

"I've seen the elderly and frail be upended by skateboarders that never look back. Do they care if they cause an elderly person to break their hip...often a life ending accident...I don't think so."

Guaranteed this guy has never seen this happen once.   And the age thing is just some old person hate.  rip

Yep. I'm about to hit 37 too. Still, look how old people get when they follow the shit slide of expectation. Skating keeps you young mentally and physically. People are conditioned to act the right way and are bitter when they see someone escaping their shitty fate.

And RIP.

this is so trure.  i'm 38 and i know people my age or a little older who are like "oh, i don't play sports any more, my back.. my knees..  etc... blah blah". .   like really?  you're going to hang it all up at 38?  then you look at what they do with their spare time..   yard work.  golf..   are we not men?

I've seen several articles about people dying where in the comments somebody is saying they are glad or something, makes Slap pals look like a bunch of saints, and reminds how sick some of the people who walk among us are when given anonymity.

seen this too much. just makes me wonder who, out of all the people i come in contact with daily  (public, work, school other social shit) are idiots who sit behind computer screens posting non-sense like this?

It's how Americans are world viewed though in sweeping generalizations.......remember when the tsunami hit Japan and that facebook status thing went viral had comments saying, 'payback for Pearl Harbor' and shit like that. These comments should come of no surprise, the sad thing is it's to be expected.
