Darren Harper at Jenkem Mag

Darren Harper is interviewed at Jenkem Mag.
http://www.jenkemmag.com/home/2012/02/27/darren-harper-the-obama-of-skateboarding/
Nothing new actually. Seems like his only claim to fame is that he took a jab at Stevie. And his not with Yums shoes (Soldier Boys shoe company as far as i remember) anymore, who he choose over DGK. Way to ruin whatever shot he had at a carrer in skateboarding.

"So you’re more gangster than Stevie?
Oh man, of course man. We ain’t going to say gangsta, just going to say I?m a stand up cat.
Plans for the next year?
Keep skating and hopefully hit the big screen with my life story. Become that household name. Change the misconception of Darren Harper. Sometimes before you judge things you got to see whats going on. I?m all about the youth and working with the kids. I don?t want to be just a skateboarder, I?m striving to be a household name and get to the Tony Hawk kind of level."

"Then I see his partner getting all excited, so I had to let my peace be known. I donʼt take none of his credit, heʼs a legend, he?s a power house. But we also came up near the same time and Iʼve been knowing him, people donʼt understand that."
hes not talking about coming up at the same time as stevie is he?

"the first black skater to really do it at this level." dude is really feeling himself. Thats disrespect to every black skateboarder before him and all the present ones that are way better than him.

I actually get where Stevie is coming from. Him getting on that Yums shit actually makes DGK look bad and he probably (in his own way) was just telling Darren that it sucked by giving him an ultimatum.

I don't know if what he is saying is 100% true but I could see that fight stuff happening. I know so many dudes that act all hard but then don't do shit when it is time to throw down. If you are claiming your dirty ghetto kids you think they'd be willing to step up

I dig on his skating, but I like Stevie a helluva lot more than he likes himself.

Blows my mind that people are leaving companies run by established pros in favor of one run by Nick Trapasso, who I'm pretty sure can't county to twenty without taking off his shoes.

That interview was embarassing and I'm glad he won't be stinking up the DGK video. Stevie gave him a chance and dude blew it. I can't believe he thinks he's the only black skater to "do it at this level". Getdafuckouttahere with that shit, man! Him having a son and still doing hoodrat shit around him is just sad.

Or maybe it's because Stevie is an adult, owns a company, and realizes that getting in one stupid fight could cause a lot more trouble than it's worth and that proving how "hood" you are won't offset that?
And let's see--Darren comes up to Stevie after he left DGK, just to talk to him, and as people gather around, he starts talking shit to Stevie, claiming he's "trying to hold him down" (which is in the video) and then he "pimp slaps" Stevie all because people are around and he has to keep up a persona? Then Stevie retaliates by going after him with Darren running away after starting it (again, in the video). Still you want to say that Stevie is acting hard and not backing it up?

I'm not sticking up for Darren Harper all I am trying to say is that if your are at a party and one of your crew gets in a fight the rest should be right there helping or at least calming things down! That goes without saying. But claiming your dirty ghetto kids, a bunch of tough guys from shitty areas, and then doing nothing when a homie is in trouble is weak. But, like I said, I don't know if the story is true.
As for the fight at Manny Mania, that doesn't mean anything. There were so many people around that it was obviously going to get split up.

Stevie's "dirty ghetto kids" are just a bunch of skate rats mang. I doubt all of them grew up in the hood and are ready to throw down 24/7. The dirty ghetto kid image is marketing

Someone should have told Darren that. He probably thought starting the ruckus was what he needed to do to cement his place on the team and get a board, then he turns round and lenny rivas is crying and calling his mum
