Did you even bother to read the article? No, you didn't. Way to be Canadian.

phnom penh. this was erected to commemorate the Vietnamese eradication of the Khmer Rogue in 1979. It's called the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Monument. It blew my mind to see a statue of a family holding AK47 rifles. Looked like a tight ass skate spot too. All marble, a set gap and a drop.... that last photo is of a dude with no legs crawling around the monument plaza

Even though the communist regimes were awfully represive, not to mention an economic disaster, they did however create  some amazing highlights in the arts. Including architecture and spatial planning. I'd definitely recommend anyone visiting the countries from the old Soviet Union. Don't forget your board because all those memorial squares are some of the best marble you'll ever skate!

I don't know where you get your facts. The first generation of My Little Ponies were made by Hasbro, not the Khmer Rouge. And Hasbro hasn't made toys out of human skulls since the 1960's.

Speaking of communist architecture

I think Yugoslavia is the only socialist country with abstract ww2 monuments...

Can we rename this the architecture thread? I always like seeing bizarre or grand structures.

yea, that one piece that attaches to the foundation is carrying an incredible amount of force...thats one hell of a cantilever.  it's funny to see those structural supports at the far gabled right end - those things are mad small to be holding that weight, theres gotta be some crazy foundational support for those guys.  im gonna show this to my statics professor, she'll dig it...we've been studying static loads in structures for my MArch this semester

I went to that place recently, it's a memorial to a ww2 concentration camp.

Inside, there are concrete waves on all sides that end in a wallride.

you can kinda see it in the top left corner of this photo
Me, Jasenovac August 2008

Obviously you wouldn't skate it, but there were bike tire marks on the walls, so I guess the local kids had a go...

Frederic Chaubin's subversive Soviet superstructures

They reveal an unexpected rebirth of imagination, a burgeoning that took place from 1970 until 1990 and in which, contrary to the 20s and 30s, no 'school' or main trend emerges.

These buildings represent a chaotic impulse brought about by a decaying system. Their diversity announces the end of the Soviet Union...
