Japanese photog Akira Takata has passed away

I'm sure most people on here don't know who Akira Takata is but I remember seeing his name mentioned a few times, so I thought I should share the news for those few who did. This has come as a shock to a lot of people out here. His time came far too soon. RIP

this is a huge blow, akira was one of the best, most genuine, most enthusiastic dudes i've ever met. i got the chance to skate and chill with him every day and night for 2 weeks, the best two weeks ever. he skated the subways with us, got down in the streets. i was going to go to japan this summer to skate with him. RIP akira, an amazing photographer, person, and friend.

Yeah, I didn't believe it when I heard it. I thought I must have been mistaken or this was some kind of fucked up joke.

yeah this is super crazy. i was just with the open crew and we learned. conner had to tell kenshiro. akira had shot a lot of photos of the open crew. including a bunch (of conner and kenji nakahira) that ran in the last issue of the skateboard journal (jp).. seemed outta know were.. took a while for kenshiro to even believe. thoughts out to all the homies on this one. sucks

he was an amazing photographer. he was the fastest photographer i've ever seen shoot--he set up immediately and knew exactly how he wanted to put the camera's settings right away, no messing around or testing. and he shot all film. akira was so fun to skate and shoot with, always fucking around, always going after girls. he wanted to ditch his flight home so he could stay in the states and try to date a black girl. so rad. he shot the photo that's gonna be the cover for my next video. got to dedicate the video to him.
RIP

Some of the most beautiful photos I've ever seen. Not just skate photos, just photos. I had never heard of him until this thread, but what a loss. Every single one of his pictures was so deliberate, on point, perfect, and beautiful. Shit. RIP

I actually did hit another skater in the face with my shoe once at a demo doing a shoes fly off kickflip but he was cool with it.
