I guess the guy who wrote that doesn't know about Jay Adams and Polar Bear Agnew beating a guy to death on the corner of Gardner and Santa Monica Blvd. in the early 80s for being gay AND black.

And it is 100% true and from the horse's mouth. 

Remember the part in Dogtown and Z-Boys where Stacey asks Jay if there is anything else that he regrets doing, and Jay pauses for a really long time and gives some copout answer like, "Partying too much"?  I asked Stacey if he was getting at the gay bashing incident, and Stacey said yes, but since Jay didn't want to talk about it Stacey didn't want to prod any further.
