Although I understand a lot of what you're saying, and agree with it, I have a couple points:

1) capitalism and the way society is set up, one could argue, is inherently evil. Ya know, even if production was in the U.S., Jamie would still be making money off the hard work of his employees. And an employer cannot afford to pay an employee a fair wage, otherwise he would not turn a profit; the employees have to be worth more than what you pay them.

2) You come at Jamie for believing in something, calling him holier-than-thou or self-righteous, and have you ever stopped to look at yourself? You seem all high and mighty scrutinizing a business man when you yourself as a consumer only perpetuate this kind of shit. What steps have you taken to fight for 'human rights'?

3) And you have no choice but to buy foreign goods? Don't make me laugh. Virtually everything - hell, all of your necessities - you need to buy can be bought from domestic manufacturers. It's going to probably cost you more, but if you feel so strongly about this issue, then I don't see why you wouldn't buy domestic.

4) Do you buy food that hasn't been grown locally? WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU? Did you know that about 30% of our nation's oil consumption comes from the transportation of food? Jesus, you ignorant fuck! Buy local, god dammit! You don't need bananas and avocados 365 days a year, you prick.

Historians, economics, social scientists, etc., are not philosophers, for starters. What they deem to be a respectable and most beneficial to the state of the nation, global economy and what have you, isn't necessarily really inline with a truly egalitarian society - albeit, what it truly means to be egalitarian is open for interpretation. Many people have different agendas, and many of these economists and such are just trying  to figure out how to keep our consumer-based economy on the up. I don't want to get too much into that, but I hope you get my point.

All that aside, your MLK analogy doesn't fit that well. You say he cheated on his wife. Well, he's not out lynching whites, discriminating, and acting like a bigot.
