say it aint so. i remember breaking my wrist there the first time i ever skated it. it was my fourteenth birthday and the first time i ever skated a pool. i thought i could do it but fell straight to the bottom. america's longest skated pool is no more. R.I.P

This Spring, a retrofit lead to the filling in of the deep end. Though it will be skatable, the gnar is over. The new layout will make it easier for the masses. After being skatable for over 30 years, another one bites the dust.
Nothing hurts more than legendary and magical skate spots being tamed in order to please insurance companies and city councils. Spots come and go, but this kick in the nuts hurts a little more than others. When EMB, Wallenberg, and others all meet their makers, you just ask, "What's next?" ?Jake Phelps

Shameful shit.  Wonder if the shallow end will still have that super tight bank to wall.  Good thing they spent all that money doing this and skatestopping Copley while the 'skatepark' still hasn't broken ground.

Is this the kind of place that was actually a pool during the warm months, or was it an abandoned place? The article said the deepend was filled, but no mention of the rest of the pool. What are they retrofitting it for? Anybody got that inside knowledge? Dig it out?

their plan is to fill the deep end to like 6 or 7 feet deep. That ruins the waterfall to the main wall. There still will be some tranny, just not as much there once was

Actually a pool during warm months.  Deep end had the majority of the tranny (including the waterfall that gave you most of your speed,) but some portions of the shallow end had some tight bank to wall type tranny.  It's not shaped like a traditional backyard pool- more vert walls with tranny built up to / on it.  The lame instagram picture below might illustrate it a bit better.

Anyway, it's being retrofit with concrete to eliminate most (or all) of the tranny in the deep end and render it unskateable.  Haven't been there to see the damage done, but that looks like concrete that isn't coming out.

State officials are about to put a serious obstacle in the path of skateboarders lured each off-season to the empty 12-foot deep end at the Francis J. McCrehan Memorial Swimming Pool in Cambridge.

The state Department of Conservation and Recreation is preparing to fill in the deep end at the pool on Rindge Avenue, reducing its depth to six feet, before the pool reopens next year.
