What's this "once they make a shoe that doesn't all apart right away" bullshit?
My Emerica's skate great and hold up fine. I wouldn't buy a skate shoe from any other company but them, skater owned or not.  You guys claiming that only Nike and Adidas can hold up need to actually try a skate shoe for once.

And for those trying to act like Nike isn't any more disingenuous or greedy than other shoe companies, there's enough evidence out there that nobody needs to even argue back.

I've been getting these for lunch. Pretty decently priced and very filling. I think they're only in the bay area though.

I've tried quite a few shoes in the past years.

I already had several pair of Lakais,Emerica , Etnies, es, DC,vans, Circa, DVS and even HUF.

The last Emerica shoe I had was the first Spanky pro model, it didn't even survive a month and the inside layer already had holes.
I had a hole where the heelcup was and that thing started to hurt. I used the shoes for work and never skated in them.

Several shoes before 2007, from DC, DVS, es and EMERICA, were better quality.

the emerica spanky shoes are not good to skate in. I can speak on it. They do fall apart quickly.

But like someone above said, the more full fledged skate shoe will hold up. I've been riding the Laced for more than a month now and they have kept up. The cushion on that shoe is another story... like none.

I never thought of nike sb, as so much special compared to the regular program.

The sb line has more padding , better stichting and that's it.

I buy the nike shoes, because they simply hold up longer compared to other brands.

Well, that's good for you, cause as Nike grows there will be less and less other brands.

Also, people act like Nikes are god's gift to skateboarding, and how every other core shoes blows apart after 2 sessions. Give me a fucking break.

I never bought nikes, but - they're shoes. who gives a flying fuck.
vans have been sold in malls since god knows when.
i feel bad for the skater-owned shoe companies who have lost out because they made their move before the big sports companies ever bit, but the thing is - there is nothing special about shoes 'designed for skating' except the associations they have with pros and the culture in general. you can skate in more or less any shoe. there are shoe designs older than skateboarding itself which perform as well as those of the 'core' shoe brands.

You're missing the point, though.

Andrew Reynolds said it in one of his interviews: With skater-owned companies, the people behind the scenes put it all all the line. They invest so much into their business and put in so much work. And when times get tough, you know they're the people who are going to do all they can to keep their company afloat.

For corporations, it's just another business venture. When shit get's rough, they pull the plug. People who work for them, SKATERS INCLUDED, get dropped and fucked over. If we really care about skateboarding and the people who put in work to improve the skateboard industry/community in a positive way, we should always prefer to support companies owned and run by skaters

Have you ever skated a pair of Janoskis ? They hold up quite well compared to other shoes!

Instead about bitchin about nikes growth , name an alternative shoe which does the job equally well.

I had Batfaces buckles and zippers pro model and it actually held up longer than many of the other vulc shoes I have had. Emerica is definitely one of the better shoes companies, up there with Nike and Adidas.

es square two fusion, and they cost a fraction as much

DC's super suede is supposed to be really good.

HUF's are supposed to be pretty proper, as well.

Not to mention, SB's a price higher than most other shoes.

The idea that any of you believed Nike cared about skateboarding more than money is hilarious. Believe in Santa Claus too?

I never believed that Nike cared about it. But how much do other companies care about skateboarding?

DC by now has a skate shoes collection and lifestyle part, branching out to other sports like snow, box, moto, surf and their racing stuff.
Soletech shut down es, one of the brands that targeted only skateboarding besides emerica.

Etnies has the same constellation as DC subtract the racing stuff.

Even Osiris has five other categories besides skateboarding.

At the end of the day every brand wants to make as much cash possible, achieving the biggest margin possible.

I know there are more brands out there like Fallen, Dekline or Huf that still are mostly active in skateboarding only.

I've been skating Nike's for a while and this thread made me want to try something else out. I just don't really like the look of that many emericas I kind of want to try the toniks...

Well, maybe the folks who have had a lot of positive experiences with other brands can help.

I constantly say, time and time again, that if you're looking for a good modestly-padded vulc shoe, the Es Square Two is the bee's knees. Great flick, durable, grippy, laces don't break, etc.

There are a ton of good vulc options out - they're so hot right now!. Gravis Arto Mids look good and simple. I want to pick up a pair of Supra Amigos to see how well the Supra Foam helps out in Vulc shoes, but they look sold.

As far as cupsoles go, I don't really skate cups, but the new Westgate shoe, The Flick, may worth taking a look at. Also have heard nothing but good things about the DC Cole Lite S. Fallen sells some pretty padded shoes if that's what you're in to. I know you said you were looking at the Toniks, but I'm just throwing things out in hopes that other people can chime in.

^ Supra foam insoles are kinda stiff yet mushy on your feet. very comfortable & provide good cushioning. they're like a beefier version of the half cab insoles with the added gel at the heel
