Emerica has been my favorite "core" shoe brand for about as long as they've existed. The thing is, I can't look through their footwear lineup anymore without breaking into yawn fits...and it's been on a downward slope for years. Every shoe is black or grey with a couple of blues thrown in...every shoe looks like doo-doo...it's just pitiful. I'm not asking them for Supra tiger stripes and shit, but please Emerica...give us something interesting to look at. How can one shoe model have 6 black colorways (i.e., black with white sole; black with black sole; black with dark grey whatever) Your motorcycle boots are cool, and all, but they're fucking boring. Braydon's first shoe was the last interesting thing and I know I'll get mocked for stating that but it at least tried to be interesting (ugly can be interesting). If I have to look at another black vulc that is supposed to look like a fucking half-cab I'm going to...well, I don't know what I'm going to do. Complain more, I guess?

It's very sad. The R3's were the last hurrah. I can't wait til they get their shit together and release a decent cup with deeper tread. Can't wait to see a new reynolds shoe.

They cater to a crowd. Es always seemed the more tech looking whereas Emerica was boring as shit. Still makes me wonder how they got rid of Es over Etnies or even Emerica. They could have easily taken Emerica pros and moved them to other Soletech companies.

G-Codes are sick but have fucking horrible colorways. They have about 5 black versions. Hsu 2s are sick too but same issues as far as colorways are concerned.

Seriously.

I know it's all taste, but I can't fathom putting any of the crazy-ass shoes from the 90s on my feet. I also can't take all the crazy colors, patterns, zippers, dildos, air bags and doo-dads on my shoes.

Emerica stays in business because I feel most skaters want that as well.

And to those of you bitching about not enough colorways...What other colors do you need? Multi-colored uppers? Colored accent lines to match every one of your outfits?

Some of y'all crazy

many of their newer models just look generic and too similar to each other, they needa have a few more options as far as types of shoes go. A few more cupsole & midtop models would be nice. if they ever made a reynolds mid or a cupsole version of the westgate it would be an instant buy for me

I mean, I love G-codes and Reynolds3's. I even really liked the pair of Francis mids I had. I just wish they'd make their sole grooves deeper so it wouldn't flatten out so god damn fast.

emerica have always made simple looking shoes in basic colourways; that's what they are good at.
still waiting for them to rerelease ed's 1st shoe though (and they might as well rerelease that phocus model while they are at it, i always wanted a pair).

I'd rather buy a black "boring" colorway than to get some bright neon queer looking shit.

they've definitely invested more in their chiller line in an attempt to expand their market share. i don't think most skaters are gonna be throwin down 80 bucks for native american moccasins, and a lot will see the stupidity of it. like others have mentioned, i'm not too concerned about the colorways, i think basic is better, but for god's sake, they better figure out a way to start using deeper tread and thicker rubber for the outsole. i grew up idolizing the team and their image, but the overall quality of the shoes hasn't gotten any better. i think lakai is the only other "core" shoe company i can get down with nowadays. (but the more i see adidas' offerings, the more i want to try a pair out!)

This is the last pair of Emerica's I had in the neighborhood of 10 years ago - The Heretic. Seems like a million years ago...

Right...because the only possibility other than a black shoe is "some bright neon queer looking shit". The spectrum is full of greys, my friend. Extremes are for the religious right and my brothers in Act-Up.

I'm on my third pair of Reynold's right now.  They have all been variations of the black colorway.  Wouldn't have it any other way.

Very true...actually I've been bummed about the skate shoe industry for a while now. When Vans became the shoe to wear/beat, everybody started competing to be the most boring vulc creator out there. I miss me some grandpa-grey Kareems (his first shoe on axion) or the brown leather MJ2's on Emerica. The Penny 1's on e's with the suede that went down in the middle of the shoe (where the bridge is) were crazy too. And the only shoe I ever liked on DC, Stevie William's first shoe. Really imaginative stuff. They weren't necessarily in crazy, fruity colors, but there was a design aesthetic to them that was fantastic...they weren't copies of every other shoe on the market. Now, like the video game industry and (probably) every other industry out there, the bean counters and marketing shills demand a guaranteed sell, so there's no innovation.

Color is pretty much the last thing I consider when buying shoes. They get torn apart in days anyway, who cares what they look like? Give me a simple, durable shoe that skates well and I'm happy.
