Soda is the worst . Im horribly addicted to coca cola , longest ive gone without it is about 1 month in the last 25 years or so . Gonna try to stop drinking it now as I just ran out of it

lets see how that goes ...

just buy a ton of bottled water & drink that instead. i used to be a soda fiend myself but over time ive just made it habit to drink water whenever i want something to drink. its like my default drink, even at restaruants. nowadays when i drink soda its like its only for "entertainment" or some shit. if im actually thirsty im always going for water, if not gatoraid or juice for when im tryna spice things up a bit. just continuously make a conscious effort to go for water in most situations and over time the habit will form by itself

I'm doing the same thing. It's been really hard for me because I used to inhale the stuff, but I haven't drank soda for about 3 months now and I'm down 3 pant sizes. I'd reccomend getting a reusable bottle so as not to be wasteful (money and enviromental wise) by buying giant packages of water bottles. I definitely understand the ease of use with getting the huge package of bottled water, though. Always having a fresh bottle ready to go beats having to refill a bottle all the time, especially when you're trying to beat your cravings for high calorie drinks.

if you cut out soda and french fries, push yourself to eat some more fruits and veggies, you are halfway there.

If trying to lose weight- don't eat out.  Even if you order the veggie/salad option at most places they find a way to use way too much oil, butter, salt, cheese, etc.  If you cook from scratch at home, you know exactly whats going into your food.  So many times I'ver ordered some type of "grilled vegetables" and it comes doused in butter and salt.

Also- restaurant portion sizes are ridiculously large.

My healthy tips are pretty much the same as everyone else's- water, eat breakfast, fruit for snacks (I bring fruit to work daily so I won't hit the vending machine), try not to eat much processed foods (Some people's rule of thumb is don't eat it if it comes out of a can or a box, that's a bit much for me).

A good one is that if you are going somewhere where you know they'll be lots of bad food, like if a buddy's ordering pizzas or some other takeout or a bbq, eat an apple and some water before you go.  That way you're kind of full and don't want to gorge as much.

probably not putting this shit on everything would improve the quality of life

but then again life is boring when bland.

What everyone said or something, no soda, blah blah blah

or some shit like that.

spicy peppers are actually one thing that rules that isn't bad for you.  they're actually good for you.  increase metabolism.  anti oxidants.  the only thing could arguably be "bad" about that sauce is the sodium but it's probably not that much.   i like Tapatio but to me it's not spicy enough

this is my recent obsession

Oh fuck yeah the yucateco is bomb too, if you're ever in vegas i suggest you take the drive down to baker ca and check out the alien jerky hut. I scored this shit called satan's blood there.

You only need a few millimeters of a toothpick of this and it's torture.

i was doing great for a good 10 years or so but have fallen off the last few years due to crazy work schedule and some back problems that got me off my exercise routine. but here's some diet tips that worked well for me.

eat smaller meals 5-6 times a day. even if you are eating like shit, eat half your lunch at lunch time and then the other half 2 hours later. it's an easy habbit to get into.

watch your portions. i used the body for life approach where you are allowed 1 portion of veggie, protien and carb each meal (3 portions total) where each portion is not bigger than your fist. this is a great approach as you will eat more veggies.

avoid fried food and full fat dairy.

eat lean meats. red meat is ok, just get the lean cuts. check out BFLs list of good foods for a good cheat sheet: http://bodyforlife.com/library/food-list

for your inbetween meals (aka snacks) get nuts, fruits and turkey jerky\turkey meat sticks. i get these turkey slim jims at whole foods that kick all kinds of ass. another good one is peanut butter with a sliced up apple.

and the absolute hardest part is regulating your drinking. when i was doing good i kept it to 2 light beers or 2 wines or 2 alcohol drinks with no cal mixers (or on the rocks) a day.

if you are having a hard time figuring out your rythem for getting results then consider using something like calorie king for the first month or so that you can get into a good habbit and become a better judge of how much is too much and how much exercise will allow you to increase your eating\drinking: http://www.calorieking.com/

and the last thing is, you are going to cheat so add a cheat day so that it's regulated. if you don't have a cheat day then you are on a diet that will one day end. if you incoroprate a cheat day then you will have a chance of changing your lifestyle in a sustainable way instead of dieting. as i mentioned above i kept it going for 10+ years before falling off. i usually pick saturday and then dominate with donuts for breakfast, gnarly lunch, pizza, cake, heavy beer. etc... if you are dieting right then you will feel like shit on sunday and regret it and actually be looking forward to getting back on the healthy eating. but the cheat day is what allows you to pass up pizza or donuts at work because you can just think about destroying some on the weekend.

I agree about drinking being a huge factor.  I enjoy good beers, but when you look, lots of "good" beers have 250-300 calories.  So three a day is almost an extra thousand calories.  ouch.

real talk:

raw oats, almonds, frozen blueberries (put them in hot water for a minute or so to soften them up) and add low fat milk (soy if you're not down with dairy for whatever reason).  i just eat it straight up no cooking.  delicious. and cheap.

eat that for breakfast, lunch, dinner, whatever.  so good and keeps you going without making you feel crumby.  i eat that at 6am and i am good to go until 1230 or so when lunch time comes around.

I have pretty much the same breakfast:  raw oats, chia, and ground up linseed, sunflower seeds and almonds with soy milk.  plus mango or banana or whatever I can get.  Stays with me until lunch easily.

So you make your own cereal or something?  That sounds better if it would be in yoghourt.  It doesn't sound bad, probably would have to get used to it.  I really need to change my breakfast routine.  Right now it's usually coffee, some kind of really sugary pastry, and a banana.

I just buy rolled oats and add the other stuff.  Adding honey to it is nice as well.  Breakfast is that plus a fruit/vegetable juice, coffee, and spirulina tablets.  I used to never eat breakfast, this way is much better.

Just make sure what you're eating contains some form of nutrients and that it will fill you up to stop your hunger. Otherwise over eating isn't too good even when its "healthy foods". Also your intake of energy(calories) should equal out to your outake (excerise).

some tips:

- obviously, water throughout the day. I probably drink a good 3+ liters a day. And, seriously, drinking water/tea with your meals makes you eat so much less, and you feel just as full.

- You can pretty much just gorge yourself on vegetables. It's really hard to eat too much, and the high water content in things like bell peppers and cucumbers, along with the fiber, will make you full and satisfied

- I probably eat more fruit than recommended, but that's how I satisfy my need for sweets. Staples for me: blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, bananas (more sparingly), kiwi, and every once in a while watermelon and pineapple

- frozen fruits and vegetables are often more ripe and nutrient-rich than the fresh produce at the market, depending on where/who/when you get your produce

- frozen meals, pre-packaged, and processed foods are all pretty big no-nos.

- avoid store-bought drinks. Juices, smoothies, purees are all garbage. Unless you're watching a dude blend up some fruits/veggies in front of you, don't buy fruit drinks.

- As previously mentioned, eat a hearty breakfast. Every morning I eat the same thing, and I love it. I'm not saying everyone will, but it's hearty, filling, healthy, and packed with good stuff:

-Whole grain rolled oats (cooks in under 3 minutes in the microwave), with some cinnamon for flavor
- fruit to put in oatmeal: blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, and/or bananas
- two slices of natural whole wheat bread (bread can be made with as little as 5-6 ingredients. The fewer the better)
- 100%-almond almond butter spread (peanut butter is good, too, but don't buy that JIF crap)
- white tea
- glass or two of water

If you want to talk about any other nutrition-related stuff, feel free to shoot me a PM; I love talking about healthy eating. I think more people would feel compelled to eat healthy if they kinda just knew where to start, and some healthier alternatives to their favorite foods.

Its very hard to eat too much fruit . While it prob is bad to get too much one some vitamins its really hard to do it from just eating fruit or veggies

Theres no way frozen fruit or veggies have less nutrient / vitamins / minerals then fresh fruit if its the same quality . if X and Y is taken from the exact same batch and Y is frozen , X will have better taste , and more of everything ells . Ripe fruits will always be better then frozen ripe fruits . Freezing it fucks up the cell walls and so on

Aslong as its a good quality Juice / smoothies / purees its perfectly fine to buy it from a store . Easiest way to check this is the best befor date . Fresh juice / smoothes / purees without concervatives wont last more then afew days without fermenting or losing flavour

On another note Ive stopped with the colas now and Im trying to eat more healthy , no more junk food and store bought shit . cook more and more fruit and veggies .  losing my Coca cola will be the most fucked up . If I stop for like 2 days I get head aches usualy

- Fruit IS very high in sugar. It's obviously not the same stuff you get from a bag, a beet, or a cane. Fructose, the sugar in fruit, has a low glycemic index and such. However, sugar is still sugar and if you're trying to lose weight, a lot of people may gorge themselves on fruit, and wonder why they're not losing weight. I agree with you when you say it's hard to eat too much fruit, as the high water content in most fruits fills you up pretty good, too, but those struggling with obesity or have diabetes should control their intake of fruit.

- The frozen vs ripe thing: All things equal, yes, the fresh will have a slight edge. However, I was just noting that the fresh produce at your market isn't always better. Food often travels hundreds/thousands of miles to the grocery store, so the produce often has to be picked before it is most ripe (and carrying the most nutrients). Frozen produce, on the other hand, is picked at its ripest point and then flash frozen, locking in it's nutrients. I think it may degrade, like, the vitamin C content or something else, but it has the vast majority of its nutritional benefits still intact

- Most store-bought smoothies/juices aren't fresh. Even the odwolla/whatever fancy whole foods-type drinks aren't all they're cracked up to be. Nutritionally content degrades over time, and I'm sure those drinks weren't bottled the day before they were put on the shelf, and you don't know the quality of the ingredients the company uses. Plus, you miss a lot of the good stuff a fruit/veg. has to offer without the skin, pulp and such. Also, many contain added sugars. Better than soda? Yes, but if you want a smoothie/fruit drink, you should really do it yourself at home

But I wish you luck on your journey to healthier eating, and it sounds like you know what you're doing. I know I still have stuff that I need to control myself with, but it feels pretty dope to eat well. Keep it up; no such thing as eating too healthy.

A good starting point is to keep bad shit out of the house.....you want ice cream....go buy a cone....don't have a gallon sitting in your freezer which you graze on all week.

Just getting into routines ie grocery shopping, planning home cooked meals for a week, packing lunches.  I think getting the structure part is more important, then make the adjustments.

Definitely backing not buying unhealthy food. When I lived on my own I avoided buying junk food. I think the unhealthiest thing I bought were some cream cheese/chive crackers and some peach tea. Moved back in with my parents, they're not unhealthy but they do buy some junk food and my mom bakes. It's hard to resist when it's in your fridge or cabinet.

I'd stay away from cliff bars, and granola-type stuff. A lot of it is loaded with sugars and it's really calorie-dense. Trail mix is a very blanket term. A lot of the regular, everyday trail mix has a lot of sodium and sugar from sweetened-dried fruits.

I'd say just plain raw or roasted nuts, preferably without salt. Almonds are probably the best, however, cashews, walnuts, and most nuts are pretty healthy in general.

I quit soda and juices over 5 years ago and if I do try a small portion of them I end up spitting it out.  I drink nothing but water.

I've been fazing out on ice cream.  I feel horrible after eating ice cream.  Anything with icing ie.  cake, donuts my teeth start hurting.  I need to quit that junk too.

i personally really like the texture of raw oats and milk, and the flavors themselves are already good to start with. simple and clean.  yogurt sounds kind of heavy.     also i always eat this with a big black coffee, it pairs well.    Rfox's recipe is way beyond mine though, mine is pretty basic.  just throw some oats in milk and see if you hate it or not.

Option 1: Read a bunch of diet blogs before you go grocery shopping to gain motivation to shop and eat healthy. Go to grocery store and stock up on fruits, veggies, legumes, and flax seeds and spend all your money. When you are hungry, all you will have is healthy food to eat and you wont be able to afford to eat out.

Option 2: Replace all your silverware with tiny forks, knives, spoons, ect. As it will take you a while to notice the effects of feeling full when you eat, the tiny silverware will cause your stomach to catch up with your mouth.

problem = solved.

Working in a restaurant isn't helping my case much.  Staff meals always end up being the greasiest stuff, and it's hard to turn down tasty, free food when you're hungry.

I went for groceries tonight intent on only buying healthy things.  Came out with apples, bananas, cereal, yogurt, KD (which is good and bad at the same time).. But I also bought sliced ham, and only realized at home that one sandwich worth is 45% of my day's salt.  God damn.  Trying to chill on the sodium because it's making my lips crack and shit.

What bummed me out is how expensive nuts cost these days.  Almonds ain't cheap bruh.

Yea, I find those are best to buy at places like Sams or Costco or something.

You can pick up a 3 pound bag of almonds for not too much money. Things that have long shelf lives and you may want in large quantities you may want to consider even buying online. I've never done it, but Amazon can have some good deals on food

Some solid tips in here, actually very motivating.

I'm not fat by any means, but I am short, and I'm not sure if its medically correct, but I can only assume that my weight has less area to be distributed, thus its easier for me to get fat, or at least looks it.

I eat absolute shit. Maybe I try and convince myself otherwise but theres no other way around it. Usually fast food at least twice a week. I also drink a pop everyday, if not with lunch, with dinner.

I've never attempted to change my diet, but I've developed a noticeable gut now and am seriously considering it. The best place to start would be lunch. I work 10-11 hour days and usually dont have time to make these big "hearty" breakfasts that everyone has. There are various fast food places around where I work and its so easy to go to the drive through, grab a burger, etc. Dinner is usually the same, something picked up or some sort of frozen dinner, I get home late and would rather relax and watch a movie than prepare a meal for 40 minutes.

Right there is usually what it comes down to. Time. It is so easy to get a subway, mcdonalds to go, eat it, done with it. I find making food to be so tedious, not to mention the cleaning that comes with that.

However, somethings I am going to try change tomorrow are: Water, and lots of it. Replacing pop with water for sure. Chips too, need to find a substitute, almonds are a good idea

Its hard when everyone I work with is fat as hell, they eat shit all the time and say "Should I grab you something?" My lunches are paid, so its easy to just say yes and not worry about cost, etc. Im going to put that money into some healthy alternatives.

Long road ahead.
