Hell yeah!
Eman you are a fucking beast.
Can I threadjack this now and ask if anyone has the scan of an early Eman ad (spitfire?) doing kickflip b/s noseblunt revert as a sequence on some really tight tranny with vert? That would be tight. How that trick was performed on that obstacle is still a source of long-lived personal wonder.

The best thing about parks like Derby or Greer is that anyone can have fun at them and you can get as gnarly as you want. Just rolling around isn't very complicated, but if you are creative you can challenge yourself. Pack a lunch, loosen your trucks, and have a good time.

Gipper, you left/right paradigm stuck prick, take a break from your crusade to save urban at-risk youth and come up and skate the Healdsburg park sometime, bro.

VICTORY!!!!
The city is reassessing the changes and is now only going to repair cracks and do basic changes instead of the 4 inch concrete addition thing.
I love the Illusion, I gotta say though, there have been several alterations to that park. The sidewalk was added in the 90's and the little down bank was put in in the 2000's.

Derby has to be the oldest park still standing in CA. What else has survived that long? The dish? That's still their right? I love old skateparks. Would be cool to see a list of the oldest skateparks in the world.
The dish is still around. I skated it a couple of years ago. Derby is way more fun. Petaluma and Santa rosa are newer but still have that awesome old school feel to them.
The whole 4 inch idea is confusing, the place is already super tight, filling in would be a bad idea, and the kinks and imperfections make that place so great. Unknown tranny tippers can't just show up and rip the place before getting to know the surfaces pretty intimately. Sounds like they just wanted to pussy the place out.
I was initially bummed when they put the sidewalk an down bank at the end, destroying a gnarly gap, but I grew to really like the little bank to bank at the end. True to Derby though, it has a tiny sweet spot to hit it right.
Whoever said they were there 6 years ago and the surface was fucked- I was there 2 years ago and it was perfect aside from a couple easy to dodge cracks. Then again, I skate 56mm wheels, maybe if you try to hit up Derby with 51's it would be a problem but seems like user error.
Changing Derby any more would ruin it. It's perfect how it is. If it was just another easy to skate little spot then it would never have reached such legendary status.
I lived there for some time in the 90's and skated it a bunch, super fun to go fast uphill and hit the top hip, love the place.
Anyway I got to skate it once with a rad dude killing it and he hit me up to try the gap at the bottom, over the sand and down to the sidewalk. I would never usually try it but he got me hyped and we tried it together. He got it in about 6 tries and with a cig in his mouth. I was so stoked to see a young Donny Barley take that sand gap down with cig in mouth and roll out saying late.

^ That's sick. I never could pull the ollie over the gap, but tried plenty of times. I cleared it no problem, but going so fast, off a lip, and approaching it from a bowl made it so fucking hard to commit to properly. I got eaten up by the asphalt landing too.
I was there when Eman ended a derby-q* with a frontside flip mellon over the gap, and that was sick.
Realdeal, you brainwashed golden-cock sucking corporate puppet, I'm moving up to SF in July, and plan on visiting a friend in Santa Rosa for like a week to skate all the parks around there. I'm pretty sure he loves healdsburg so I'm sure I will. Hitting petaluma and Santa Rosa parks first.
*as long as derby-q's still go down, derby will still be derby.
