Home Aquariums.
«

I recently just started up a fish tank. Its a 75 gallon and Ive had it running for a couple of weeks with a couple of rosies in it to get a cycle of life going. Im waiting on my Gold Siamese Tiger Fish that I ordered to arrive so I can get them into the tank. They will probably be about 2 inches when I get them, and once they grow to about 8 inches I am going to get a 4 inch Tiger Shovelnose. So any pals out there have their own aquariums at home? If so what kind of fish do you own?

I have a large goldfish. he picks up rocks with his mouth and spits them out at the walls of the aquarium all day. he also uproots the plants in the aquarium. That motherfucker is a menace. I also have a few tetras and one of those weird sucker fish that sits on the wall and eats algae.

I just went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium last week. They have a fucking huge octopus. BTW I don't recommend eating a weed brownie and going during a saturday during spring break unless you like being stoned as fuck around a thousand screaming children

I won a goldfish at a fair when I was 6, and the fucking thing lived 9 years. I never named it, fed it once a day, and it just kept fucking going. I was always terrified I was going to break the aquarium when it was in my room. I prefer pets that don't need an enclosure, but some of the aquariums in this thread look really sick, especially the plant ones

I can admire a nice home aquarium setup. It's just way too high maintenance and expensive for me to get into at this point in my life.

When I was about 5 years old my dad bought a Red Tail Catfish and we had a hundred gallon tank. The fish in the first two years grew to 3.5 feet and out grew the tank so we gave it to a guy who owned multiple red tail cats and he said the fish can live up to 50 years and grows to about 6 feet. Its pretty crazy because the fish is about 5.5 now, and my dad still talks to the guy.

Back in the day when my family had a house we had a small man made pond in our garden , maybe 3 meters in diameter . Had some of those fish that ate algee , and the rest were those cheap koi ( or what ever that was )
was really nice , they got pretty big and had offspring . Either a cat or seagulls got to them in the end and we sold the place abit later .
THink we gave some away too
I would like to have a Terrarium / vivarium or 3 with chameleons , Im really into poison dart frogs too . Look amazing and the chirping they do is pretty cool . A big fish tank would be cool to specialy if you do it up nice its pretty much part of the interior decoration
Can you have sea horses ?

The algae eaters are known as Plecos. I had a Panther Chameleon for about 3 years and he died for unknown reasons, and i was super attached to him so I swore off of owning reptiles all together. You can own Sea Horses, but salt water tanks tend to be very high maintenance.

panthers are soooo sick . I had 1 jackson cham and one euro cham . They only live for 3-5 years if I remember right so ...
Anyways its really hard to keep chameleons , diet has to be just right , lightning has to be just right , humidity , supliments
biggest killer is dehydration though , need to make sure they drink enough . Big problems with chamelons is they hide sickness problem real well . When you notice somehting is wrong its usualy too late . My europen chamelon died of malnutricion , not enough vitamins ( huge fuck up by me and I still feel shit about it ) dude was abit week too and wouldnt eat sometimes , real picky eater and abit of a wimp . When he was on his last day I tried mouth to mouth on the dude but nothing helped . fuck that was a bummer .
The jackson was more of a ass kicker and ate everything and drank all the time . But gave him away since I got paranoid about the other guy dying
Really want a Yemen , Panther and jackson again . Super cool and funny animals

Yeah chameleons are very high maintenance, but I did everything well. I majored in zoology, but dropped out of school because I had too many bills too pay. Animals are my passion( next to skateboarding). I think my panther just died for reasons unknown. Jacksons are a cool chameleon. Theyre living triceratops, just as frilled lizards are living dilophosaurus.

Not a home setup but something I built and maintain at work:
It's a 400 gallon system stocked with 200 juvenile tilapia which I'll raise to a couple pounds each. The water cycles through hydroponic grow beds that harbor bacteria and convert ammonia fish waste into nitrates which the plants digest.

I used to own one of these. She was fucking laid back and would chill on my shoulder all the time. She ended up getting sick later so I had to nurse her back to health feeding her pedialite and had to help her shed. I gave her back to the place I got her when I went to college so they could put her out to stud and for all I know she's still pumping out eggs. Any bay area pals looking to pick up some sick herpetofauna should check out the East Bay Vivarium in Berkeley!
