i've got a new job downtown and will be catching train to work and then skating the rest of the way. i wanted to get a backpack that i can attach my board to but that also had enough padding for a laptop that i could hopefully fall and not destroy my work laptop. anyone know any clean simple bags that fit that?

Do you have a macbook?  They have pretty sturdy cases so even if the padding in your backpack isn't amazing, you'll have some extra padding there.

If you got a PC, which I don't think have very many third parties out there making cases, I would just go for a samsonite bag or something.  I don't know any "skate" bags with really good laptop compartments.  I do know that the nice bags have memory foam and shit.
Here's an example of a pretty expensive one, also looks kinda goofy:

I've been using this backpack for about two years now, it's comfortable, has a minimalist design, plenty of cushion, and has enough space for my 15" pro and a few books and other crap. I can't say that I've slammed with it but I've dropped it a few times and my computer has been fine every time. I would say protecting your computer should be more important than holding your skateboard. At $40 I don't see the point in buying anything else

I saw the InCase mentioned above at SkateWarehouse in SLO.  For $29.99 in a purple color and also a red.

I have no financial interest in naming SW.  Just check their site for close outs especially during sales. they seem like a legit place as actually have a shop as well as mail order business. I think they even sponsor local skaters, but I have never seen them sponsor pros like Active or CCS. Not sure how SLAP feels about mail order but most local shops I have been to do not carry specialized backpacks.

If you have a Costco membership, I have seen a bag named FUL that has a super padded laptop case and also lots of padding on your backside.  The bag seems super tight and has a firmer shape for each pocket specific.  Not a big floppy bag that stuffs tons of gear in it, the type I prefer for camping. It seems like it will protect cables and chargers better.  But I have found putting all cords into ziploc baggies keeps them lasting a lot longer.  Keeping connections clean and less tangling.  I recommend a neoprene sleeve on laptops and tablets just to be sure.

Also the material called Poron is supposedly one of the best shock protectors for electronics. They use it for many applications, including insoles (Footprint Brand). Cases made from Poron are fairly pricey though. Even iPod and iPad cases run $40-50 for an edge/frame guard type case.

Btw: SW ships really fast to NorCal as if you call in the order by noon things usually arrive next day on UPS, even though shipped regular rate.

Good luck with your search.  Jump on amazon to read reviews and also YouTube.  You will find a lot of variety through the similar items feature.

Ask Muska maybe??

I wouldn't buy a skate brand backpack of you're looking for padding. I would just buy a normal backpack and get a good case for your laptop.

You should check out Chrome. They're expensive, but are suppose to be lifetime guaranteed I think. Plus, water proof and are just cool bags in general. I think they have a couple bags that could hold a board too. Not meant to hold one, but should be able to.

This is honestly your best best, Sleazy - there's gotta be something in there that would satisfy you wants. They can even design one for you I think if you wanna spend the money. I have the Cardiel backpack - if a backpack could be an Army Jeep, it would be this backpack. It's got a laptop compartment and straps to hold your deck if you need it to...maybe this could be a fit.

You never want to have a laptop and skateboard on your back.. Your back will hate you forever.

I got a new balance pack that has a heavily padded laptop compartment, you can attach your skatboard horizontal if you need to

recently copped one of these P-Rod inCase bags off amazon for like $80. Holds a 15" macbook with plenty of padding all around the inside & outside of the bag. It's made to be exactly what you seem to be looking for so I'd check em out. They're expensive if you dont buy them somewhere they're on sale like ebay or amazon so I'd look there

why the hell don't you just hold your board with your hand?

Honestly the best bet. I had a Clive backpack (are they still in business?) with a board carrier when I was in high school. I thought it was really cool when I first got it, but I hardly ever ended up strapping my board to it. Its a pain in the ass and its uncomfortable. Just get a nice backpack with an area for a laptop and maybe throw the computer in one of those foam cases for the extra protection. I just think backpacks with board carriers are a waste of money and honestly the make you look like you just walked out of a ccs catalogue.

If you're suggesting that it's beneficial to have a bag that can hold boards on a plane, you're pretty wrong...
Especially in a cramped space like on an airplane, the shape of skateboards are hard to deal with.
Having a backpack attached to it only makes it worse.
And it's not like you can just shove your skateboard under the seat in front of you, there is not enough space.

Tracer, I've taken boards on planes many times.  It's usually only a problem going international.

Nigga i done this shit about hunnid times. i always throw the bag in the upper compartments & its not a problem. all the bigger airports like the ones in detroit or atlanta are big as fuck too so id rather have it on my back then carrying it everywhere.
