You guys are so dumb. Why don't you get that it wasn't serious? He was only making jokes....with actions that had real consequences. Eliminating people from high stakes contests through pointless challenges is the ultimate joke. The judges weren't even serious. They still weren't serious when Nieratko interviewed them for ESPN. They're just really good at sticking to character and are meta as fuck. On some Andy Kaufman shit. 747s guys.

The worst thing about the CK quote is the content- "Everything is amazing and nobody's happy."
Amazing according to who? EVERYBODY hated it.

This, and that even a random quote, I mean, nothing even special, kids write bullshit like that on the facebook everyday, yet he's trying to shine as a smart fuck writing even the author..Bad move for sure, I laughed the whole time, I can see how he tried to fill the bullshit he was saying in this itw with some "omg sick metaphors", sounding like a pedantic 15 year old kid

Am I wrong in saying that last year's OIAM would have been pretty good even without Forrest? He added a lot, that's for sure, but I think taking a bunch of dudes with different styles to different spots and seeing what they come up with is interesting enough on its own.

The thing that really irks me in all these ass-covering interviews is the "they signed up for this" line everyone seems to take. The kids couldn't possibly have known that a contest which used to be judged pretty much just on skate ability (and "character" I guess, see: Forrest Edwards) was about to become a shittily directed, ultra depressing, absurdist rip-off of daytime reality tv which they would be subjected to for hours every morning - even if it was supposed to rain later that day or everybody was too hung over to even think about sitting in the interview room for  an hour with Alex Klein and his film school buddies pointing cameras in their face, asking them how bummed they were about the latest pointless elimination challenge.

The fact is that he produced a bad show. He totally alienated the prior "core" audience of OIAM (skateboarders) by making this piece of shit, and in the process alienated the participants to such a degree that he couldn't even finish it, which pretty much guaranteed that there wouldn't be enough new viewers to justify the change to the new 'inane, over-produced reality gameshow' format.

And this motherfucker has the gall to claim that it failed because the kids weren't going to bed early enough and got cranky? It seems like a lot of these "adults" are looking for ways blame the kids, mostly because they made them look bad for being involved in such a steaming turd of a production.

Find it hard to belive that he didnt read a single " review " or comment of his show . Not wanting any feed back at all or other peoples opinion

And instead of admitting that the show wasnt a raving succes or that it even had problems and instead blaming the entire skate community and every new yorker who takes the subway is just showing further what kind of fucking idiot this guy is
I don't buy for one fucking second that he didn't read any reviews etc. Bullshit, he's trying to save face by acting above it.

To be honest I think oiam is lame and I was never really interested but I did end up watching about half of last year's contest because the skating was good. Iwatched the first two this year and only just recently the last episode because all the shit flying around. I had to see just how big a fuck up this really was. Still not giving a fuck I really had no opinion of this Alex dude until reading all of his excuses. He could've just said "my intent was this but we fucked up and we ended up with this. Lesson learned. Thanks to everyone involved and the viewers." That's an easy out. I guess he'd rather blame everyone else, suck the sponsor's dick, and then bad what I assume he meant was the lower class people of NYC.

If there is any room left on the fuck Alex bandwagon, I sure could use a ride.

Exactly, Forrest wasn't some awesome reality show casting director's dream come true.

Plenty of great footage without his Jersey Shore style antics.

It just proves how out of touch Alex Klein is.

This too. How Alex can say with a straight face that Rodney Torres and Steve Rodriguez were joking through it all is risible.

I wish they'd do a second interview with him, and ask him about the skipping out through the backdoor with all the footie incident, amongst other things that were brought up. I wonder if he'd answer them, or how he'd spin them to make him try and appear faultless.

shit obviously went several thousand feet over your illiterate head. sneaking out the backdoor with a weeks worth of other people's hard work is the oldest joke in the book.

"This year I knew it was highly unlikely we?d have Forrest part 2, so the big question was: how do you make a show about 11 very normal dudes somewhat interesting? Eliminations seemed like the obvious choice just because it creates some inherent suspense at the end of each day."

I enjoyed all the guys for who they were - not what Klein was trying to make them out to be, and surely not from some lame elimination contest.

With Madible's edits - I got a better feel for the environment and the kid's personalities. It just felt more raw and true to what was actually going on at the time.

This line just got to me...i feel it epitomizes the whole thing.

wow he couldve had a chance to save himself with this interview.

what i wouldve done was just acted really apologetic and tell everyone that my idea in the beginning i know longer agree with and im sorry for making the judges do all that stuff, and that i really wont be putting myself in a place to ruin anymore of skateboarding.

boom u got a little more sympathy from me, BUT INSTEAD

he just skips over all the serious questions, blames it on everyone else, avoids a phone interview so he can have time to think of responses without getting ambushed by questions he couldnt answer, and still the dude fails at representing himself properly.

If the joke goes 36,000 feet over the entire skateboard community collective heads, then it's a really bad joke.

I feel bad for everyone involved in this, except for Klein - everything he says is the exact opposite of what the rest of those involved say went down.

No fuck Torres and Rodriguez too for going along with this shit.

Lurker hung out with the kids the most and they knew his focus shtick was just that.

Yea, 2001.

Moral of the story don't eat grapes around Alex Klein and don't leave a message on Alex's family's phone talking shit about something Alex wrote in Skateboarder about weed that you think might be about you or related to you somehow or you might get sucker punched by Alex Klein.

Henry should never be punched unless it is some Ricky Oyola pounding on your hotel room door in the middle of the night thinking Sean Sheffey or someone in his room just pissed on you off the balcony.

What I read:
"What?s with the ridiculous judging?
If you took the judges seriously then the joke went approximately 36,000 feet over your head. Imagine your head where it is now, then imagine a 757 flying through the stratosphere, because that is where the joke is. If all you want to see is raw skating, there are approximately one million free video parts online for you to watch. One in a Million is the only show of it?s kind. Does it have its flaws? Sure. But at the same time I don?t think it?s heresy to experiment and try new ideas. People beat on OIAM like it owes them money. The problem with that is that if sponsors decide that innovative skate shows are too volatile to produce they?ll stop supporting them. If that happens we might never find the next Forrest Edwards. Just typing that sentence sent a salty tear down my cheek."
