I thought I'd post this here.

Yauch was a skater, and the music of the Beastie Boys has had an obvious and real influence on our culture.

I met the guy a couple of times, and holy hell if he wasn't the most humble, honest, and funny guy you
could imagine.

Salut!

Bummed, bummed, bummed. I remember being so stoked on them during the time when...was it Mike Carroll that used stuff off "Check Ya Head"? Their music always reminds me of the Embarcadero ledges for some reason. Cancer sucks...it got my mom...my dad...it will get me eventually, I'm basically sure.

damn, RIP

skateboarding would be a very different place without the Beasties.
they seemed to straddle the gap between jock mentality and hipster artfags - as a lot of skaters seem to, and all with an excellent sense of humour.
I remember lusting after the Girl 'sabotage' board for some time too

time to dig out Pauls Boutique!

First time I heard Beastie Boys was in Plan B's Questionable. Mike Carroll skated to a few of their songs and got me so hyped.

It's a damn shame he was way too young to die.  He contributed so much to the world music as well as starting his film production company Oscilloscope Pictures. R.I.P.

i got licensed to ill on cassette tape in my easter basket when i was in 8th grade.  i remember it specifically because i was so fucking stoked.  paul's boutique is one of the greatest hip hop albums ever made.  check your head got mad play in college.  to say the beastie boys are an inspiration to me is an understatement.

"License to Ill" was the first album I ever owned. I remember having to wind the tape back into the cassette so many times, while fearing it was the last time I would be able to play it. Like someone mentioned before, I feel like their music was a huge part of the soundtrack of my life. After The Plan B video came out I would play" So Watcha Want" in my head over and over while skating around.

Opps!! I meant "Time for Livin" not 'So whatcha Want". That one was currently stuck in my head for some reason.

my first memory of them is my big sister giving me a copy of Beastie Boys 'Paul Revere' single for my birthday... probably the first record i ever owned.  my mom made me turn it off.

their video for Pass the Mic was pretty much what got me into skating...

this bums me out.  he was way to young to die.. and fuck i feel old

Damn,
Rip.

When I was a kid I remember I watched MTV and waited for their videos. They had all types of weird fisheye angles and funny themes. It was even before I started skating, like pre-2000 ish...

Such sad news. He was way too young. A huge reason that I started skating was because of the Beastie Boys and Check Your Head. I have been heavily influenced by the Beastie Boys throughout my life and still can't believe this. RIP MCA.

He was the one who got the Buddhist Monks to come to Lollapalooza in 1993.  I watched them chanting and it introduced me to some new ideas.  I later got to meet him and me and some guy from Parliament asked him if he wanted to smoke and he told me he quit and stuff.  Seems like he was living a pretty clean life for a bit, but cancer can get you even if you're healthy and stuff.  Salivary glands seem like such a weird place to get cancer.
