Humble dude. His 1995 Etnies part would make the cut for 2012. Pretty much says it all.

Actually I'm pretty surprised at how well he sounded and looked to be honest. I wish they would've touched on where the footage of that front blunt is or if he actually landed it and no filmer was there or something, I've always wanted to know what happened with that footage. Funny he had one of the best styles back in the mid to late 90s and now his style is shit and he mentioned his current influences as being Quim Cardona and Paulo Diaz, which are 2 dudes with pretty bad style(naturally), actually Quim used to have rad style too but then it got bad over the years. I figured Penny's style went to shit because of drug use but perhaps its because he's trying to skate like them?

I'm from the UK but I have not heard that accent/way of speaking before. He's got a really unusual manner - his eyes make it kind of hard to tell if he's retarded or a genius or mentally ill or a druggie. Whatever he is he came across as a pretty nice guy

Are they any interviews of him from the 90s it would be interesting to see how he's changed?

He must be sober. That is the absolute 180 from what he's sounded like lately. Usually you cannot understand a single thing he says.

I don't think he's sober.

In any event he did a lot to influence my skating for sure.

Hey kids -- did you see Rodney do those tech trix??  Guess what year.  Like Kalis says it's been done before.

His accent is strange, but he spoke very clearly and has a pleasant baritone.

I've actually been skating for over 18 years, I'm 28 now and I think you took what I was saying the wrong way. There are countless dudes that were killing it back in the mid 90s who's style is just as good if not better today, Kenny Anderson comes to mind, that guy had a part in Planet Earth Silver in 1993, but come on dude, Koston, Carroll, Marc Johnson, Geoff Rowley, Heath Kirchart, Reynolds fuck everyone I'm thinking of. I really can't think of anyone in skateboarding who was one of the best who's style has such a huge contrast...its not because of his age or how long he's been skating. I'm not saying he should be out killing it and progressing even I'm just talking about style here, I love Penny and always will for what he was but come on dude I'm pointing out the obvious. Don't say I don't have a heart, the guy was/is a serious drug addict for a long time, its obvious and its sad. I was actually just pointing out that if he names Quim and Paulo Diaz as his later influences his new style actually reminds me of theirs so maybe he's trying to skate that way because I can't really think of anyone who's style changed that drastically. Shit Cardiel got fucked and when he's on a board his style  still looks the same, he's not doing the same tricks but the way he looks on a board is the same. Penny is complete night and day from 1996 to now.

I think the way he differentiated himself from Koston at the time was going bigger.

alright, you've been rolling over 15 years, so you're fam, but i get bent out of shape when dudes shit on OGs.  as you know, this game is hard and sometimes injuries/age can affect mobility.  if carroll lost half his style, he'd still prolly have me and reynolds is just fucking incredible.  peace.

His style is a bit sloppy, but another part of it is that everybody kinda stole his style. He was the first dude to really put a proper flick on a kickflip. You look at those early 90's videos and people are mobbing the shit out of their tricks, Penny had a proper ass flick in the middle of that, which is what made watching everything he did so much better than watching anybody else, his tricks popped, he caught them in the air and would keep floating. Now every pro does it so its seems less special, but he's got that OG status for sure.
