Sounds deconstructed from their last shit; first track sounded mad childish. Some island bugaloo shit. I dunno, maybe I'd like it if I didn't know what they were capable of, but good for them for venturing outward. Maybe I'll dig it in time.

I always hate their songs when I first hear them, but I know that they take multiple listens. This is a fact with Animal Collective. I read this ESPN blog where an ex-NFL player forced himself to listen to Merriweather for an entire weekend just to be see if he would eventually like it. After about ten listens to the entire track her noted an intensifying "strange euphoria" that overcame him when listening. Exactly.

you really don't have to prove that music grows on you. anyone that likes music a lot, probably likes music that that grew on them. but yeah, animal collective is generally not an immediatly accessible band and if they were they wouldn't be popular with the same crowd.

Maybe their oldest albums are slow to grow, but they're mostly so poppy/catchy that I would disagree with them being hard to get into. They basically would play all new songs every tour before a couple years ago, and I didn't hear many complaints about them, moreso the fact that they wouldn't play the 'hits'. Thats changed too. I don't see how these songs are a deconstruction of any of their stuff either. Especially the first one, sounds like a different band (again).second one is a classic b-side from them though. Woulda fit on feels/sung tongs

Gotham is kind of a snoozer, but those fit better in context with the album. Strawberry Jam was the first thing i listened to and was kinda hard at first, but things like MPP shouldnt be hard for a music fan at all. it was super well produced and centipede hz sounds like it left some of that behind. i like a weirder animal collective, but mpp convinced me they could be a hugely successful pop band if they wanted to. Im seeing them with flying lotus in september im hyped

can't get over how good Today's Supernatural is.
2012 is the best year for music in such a long time, and still so much good stuff coming out in the next few months.

Don't like it after the first listen. Don't know if that's a good or bad sign....I need to listen to it in the car to give a total judgement.

The album is a letdown, needs more editing and more focus, even though its been 3 years since the last, it feels rushed.

It's definitely growing on me. Mercury Man is my favorite track so far. That Deakin song has to be the lowpoint. I don't particulary like pitchfork but their review was pretty spot on this time. Especially these lines:
"The two contributions from Panda Bear, in particular, underwhelm: "Rosie Oh" is another future-shocked Beach Boys fantasia in the vein of Strawberry Jam's "Chores", but comes to an abrupt, unsatisfying end; the more downcast "New Town Burnout", originally written for his dubwise 2011 solo release Tomboy, is too sluggish and distant to touch the heights of his best Animal Collective songs."
"From Sung Tongs' "Kids on Holiday" and Feels' "Banshee Beat" to Strawberry Jam's "Fireworks" and Merriweather's "My Girls", Animal Collective's greatest moments have conveyed a shared sense of discovery. There's a sense of something special being slowly revealed, of chaotic rhythms, harmonies, and atmospheres gradually cohering into glorious moments of clarity before dissolving into the ether. Centipede Hz, by comparison, feels like someone throwing a burrito on your windshield: The songs hit with a jolt, instantly splaying all their ingredients before you."
