what level of responsibility Shane has is irrelevant, to go through that, and not decide maybe its time to give the partying a break is pretty fucking scummy, or its a weird survivor's guilt way of self destructing.
Boulala is pretty scummy to begin with.
What did you expect?
A complete lifestyle renovation? Highly unlikely.

I have known Ali for many years, who are you guys to judge him for what he have been going tru?
Shane was his best friend on the team, dont you guys think he have been tru enough?
He wanted to do the jailtime even tho Shanes parents didnt want him to.
If Ali wants to have a beer once in a while he can, he is a free man that have served his punishment.

Don't people drink to drink away sadness, among other shitty feelings?
I'm not saying he
should
be drinking but it's not that surprising to me honestly. Drinking isn't an easy habit to break, I assuming, especially when you're not in a good place mentally. People fuck up, and sometimes it takes them a while to get their life back on track.
As long as god doesn't conveniently "speak" to him when he's down in the dumps and he goes all Jesus freak on us, I won't judge him too harshly.

First of all, what Ali needed to "quit" was operating motor vehicles drunk, which more than likely he does not do anymore. Secondly, it's none of anyone's fucking business.

i said it before and i'll say it again. when it was said "it may be a dysfunctional family, but it's OUR family", was the strongest thing said in that episode. it covers a lot of the issues that people have with Flip/the skaters/owners/graphics/whatever. testament to that is what was stated before about Ali and Jake being tight still. the fucked up thing to do would be to turn his back on Ali. this is what the term "family" means. shit, most people come from a dysfunctional family, but it's still family. i haven't always got along with my family, but i'll always be there for them. i didn't always think that way, but i'm a little older now and value family, life and friendships a lot more.

That moonie story is fucking insane.
going back to the two t shirts thing, I'm sticking by it. The back lip was a different day. I think they confused it and he did the feeble and the crook on the same day. If you watch sorry again, he is wearing the navy shirt on the feeble, the crook, and the nollie noseslide at wilshire, where they went immediately after skating that spot. Going from one shirt to the other and back to the first shirt doesn't make sense.
Boulala is either suicidal or a serious fucking callous asshole if he is still drinking.
grow up
Yeah dude, kill a dude drinking and then drink some more, that makes you seem truly repentant for taking somebody's life. Don't play that "If he wants to have a drink every now and then" bullshit game, he was an alcoholic who killed his friend from doing stupid shit when he was drunk and ended up in jail. He had plenty of time to sober up in jail, if he's out and drinking now, he either doesn't have much remorse for what he did to his friend, or has so much that he is trying to drink himself to death. Again, either a prick who killed his friends from his fucked up habits and doesn't have the decency to adjust them, or somebody who is having serious trouble coping.
Its not like he got a drunk in public ticket or a DUI, he fucking killed his friend.
Basically the only way Ali could satisfy your insane demands of him is if he was walking around with a dour look on his face everyday, carrying a cross on his back telling all to repent. Shit happens, sometimes it's heavy. Shane got on the motorcycle. Shane didn't wear a helmet. Screw around you lay around. Who cares if Ali gets drunk. Your self righteous point view is more disgusting than Ali drinking.

are you 14? there are tons of reasons people drink. some people like the buzz, some people like the drunk, some people like relaxing, some people like it to drink away sadness, some people enjoy a refreshing cold beer after a long day of work, and some people like the fun/social aspect.

Arto seems to be having a bit of a confusing time to be honest. I can't blame him either. The impression I'm getting is that he doesn't really venture far from his backyard pool and that the Flip team is still not much of an efficient 'unit'. He kinda seems to be piling out. I suppose he has a family to take care of, but when they cut to footage shot during that short AWS era, then back to present day footage of him podgily waddling around the coping edge with his hand propped up on his love handles - that move back to Flip seems so regrettable.

I hope I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure mindfield was his swan song. If they made a flip video today his part would stand out like a sore thumb(while probably being the best) I'm guessing he is just focusing on photography and his bowl now. I wonder what the last part is going to cover? Analog part?es' demise?his wife's pussy?

yeah, no shit. Just because I didn't list every single reason why people drink doesn't mean I'm not aware of them.
In this case, I'm saying that I wouldn't be surprised if I found out that Ali was unable to just stop drinking, given that he's in a bad place. Thought it was pretty clear from my post earlier (which you didn't even quote fully).

I think the move back to Flip is just a retirement plan, honestly. The footage in Mindfield was a few years old... and the video itself is now a few years old. Arto is pushing his mid 30's now. The way he skates, or skated, would be really hard to keep up with. I'm sure Workshop was psyched to have him, but they were probably also thinking about having "GNARLY ARTO" not "aging, pool scrapin' Arto". I'm sure he still got a few years and a few things left to jump down left in him, but not too many. He was probably more comfortable sitting back and riding the retirement wave on the company that he's been on for over a decade instead of the new one that might expect a little more than he can give.

this kid, derek gertz, fell and hit his head while skating a five stair alone and died.
Derek Gertz. 2003-2007
Derek Gertz personally told me 3 months before his death that his family threatend to kill him and make it look like a suicide. The kid was messed up and had problems because his family was a bunch of nutcase moonies. He told me he feared for his life after the direct threat from his sister and then 3 months later he's dead from a supposed skateboard accident by himself in the middle of the night. I had told Derek to go to the police and he was too scared too after he died I called the police to tell them what I knew and they did nothing and never got back to me. Those fucking moonies are sketchy. I haven't thought about this shit in years but I have chills right now....
What/who are Moonies?
Moonies are members of the Unification Church, founded by a dude born in North Korea then went South. His last name's "Moon", a very common Korean last name, hence the "Moonies".
Husbands and wives are selected based on supposed compatibility through the church, while the participants in the marriage have no say in the matter. They are widely considered to be a cult, there's stories of kidnapping and brainwashing on YouTube, etc.
I actually met a girl who's still a practicing Moonie when I was traveling in Asia. She was recently divorced from her selected husband. She was American though, didn't really talk much about it. She acknowledged it's widely known as a cult but said, most are very moderate but like in any religion there are always some extremists go overboard.
Death threats from family members is seriously fucked though.

I love these assumptions based on age because I'm betting 9/10 the one making the age assumption is in their late teens/ early twenties themselves.

best line in there was when Fox was like "it may be a dysfunctional family, but it's OUR family". there's a lot to be said for that.
I think the whole skate company as dysfunctional family thing is sort of corny. I can see having a group of friends that you've been through a lot with and feel a strong connection with but having it be centered around a skateboard company just seems silly. Plus the next shot after he said that was Arto and Rowley standing around the pool looking like sk8r life partners (no hate on life partners) with their brood of hungry ams. A skateboard company just needs to be a skateboard company...not a "family."
I laughed at the Terry Kennedy reaction shot.
