Dude's all hyped!
Props.
When you see someone speak about their passion in such an excited fashion, you know they're into it big time.

stoked when he clowned himself as being pathetic for skating at 46 years old. i might be over-analyzing it, but it seemed like he made an awkward pause after the laughter died down as a nod to us lifers. like, "see dudes? these boring fucks will never understand."

had never thought of hacking as a creative activity like skating til now.
slight rant here but i find this part really interesting.
it's not just hacking, it's science in generally. programming is especially fun though because it's like being a mathematician in acient greece or i guess a skateboarder in the 70s. there's still lots of easy stuff up for grabs. it's pretty easy to start your own open source as rodney mentioned and give something back or to take an existing open source and expand it. i live in austin and there's a huge culture around open source here and just programming in general (i actually spent my saturday at a local conference here where the community comes together to share ideas). and i appreciate rodney bringing attention to the parallels that i've noticed for a long time between skating and programming when it comes to the way of thinking that's involved. my wife actually was the one that first pointed it out to me in an indirect kind of way. eventhough i don't work with many other skaters the common thread is that most programmers have odd hobbies that they are passionate about and geek out on. there not the type that used to do something that they just watch other people do (football, etc...). they are the types that geek out for life, whether it's astronomy, fencing, electronics, bulding planes, making artisan cheese, ect... any good programmer will have some weird hobby. it's never golf or football. it's always something like skating where the satisfaction comes from creativity. it's such a common thing that i've asked about it on job inteviews and my boss on my current project asked me about my hobbies. it's not a fluffy question, it's really meant to sniff out the real geeks. and rodney is about as geeky as they come.

So inspiring if anything, to see someone still so hyped after all the years.
Easily one o the nicest, most humble guys ever.
I could watch this over & over.

I get to see Devil semi regularly and his little dude is rad as hell. My wife and I aren't into having little ones, but that'll give me more time to be a god uncle and teach Devil's spawn to slang weed.
