I kinda agree but cmon people are looking for a chill shoe too I highly doubt vans is hurting their image for makin em. Supra made them and no ones complaining about those even though they look like Kmart runners

In my eyes it hurts their image. Running shoes defeats their chances of being core. They are just following the trends and doing whatever they want, for money. I'm pretty over supporting them as of now. When some brands are busting their asses to survive in the economy.

i have completely different expectations and feelings vans vs supra. i like them both, but they mean different things to me. you cant compare them. one has made a legacy based on nostalgia and heritage. the other on new designs and more fashion than function.

to each their own. im not preaching. just my opinion. im still in the mindset i buy from brands that specialize in a product, a look, a feel.
the something for everyone brands dont mean much to me and dont get my dollars.

in the end, to the foot locker kids, i dont think that matters...but i still would buy some nike free's over the vans tech i have seen.

The reason I don't have an issue with Supra making a runner is because they aren't selling them in Foot Locker. They are selling them only to smaller stores.

I love skateboarding, it has been a major part of my life for 20 years, that doesn't mean I always want to wear skate shoes. If I have the chance to wear some really comfortable runners for walking around the city or whatever I would rather support a skate brand like Supra and buy them from a shop I believe in.

For a European who has never been to Walmart...is Walmart really like this? Like place where blacks hang out and act all weird?

Just curious.

Yeah I'm on your side on that one. vans should think hard about this one although supra is a lifestyle brand if anything now and even though they may not have a account with foot locker they sell em in the mall at every other store.  At least vans put their money towards building parks and helping skateboarding and putting on skate events as opposed to supra signing rappers and dj's and making almost every shoe extremely expensive

Es makes this runner called the ellipse, lakai makes the muni, and dvs had that huf runner. Its been done. But what does any of this have to do with skateboarding? Dude's skate in fucking timberland boots too.

I don't really see why they would have to expand their market though. About 80% of the people I see on the street is wearing Vans.

Nike came in on Vans target demographic, so now Vans is attempting to hit in on Nike's original target demographic. There's no such thing as core in the marketing world...

i feel like this is the attitude to have toward a company that's been there for skateboarding for so long.

Marshalls sells these. They're not Polo, they're a knock-off company called Polo Country Club or someshit. They made extremely cheap, low quality clothes and shoes.

The same paragraph incorporates different activities to the story...

[...] As the 1980s rolled around, Paul Van Doren began to take a lesser role in the companies' activities.  Over this period, Vans started to create shoes for a number of sports from baseball, basketball and wrestling to skydiving in an effort to compete with large athletic shoe companies [...]

There are probably some more embarrassing sports not listed. Vans, the original company, moved on from skateboarding in about 1980 for BMXers. Other than the Madrid/Vans collaboration, Vans did not become a skate company again until the corporations took over.

wrong, they just didnt make many good shoes during the 90's era a big puffy shoes with the exception of a few style here and there.  they still sponsored skaters and skate events and then really came back when they gave rowley his first pro model in 1999, which was the advent of people wearing vulc shoes on a regular basis

The Van Doren family sold the company to corporate interests in 1988. This was well before the puffy shoe era.

I would say that Vans really came back to skateboarding about the time they actually put ollie protection on their high-tops (that might have been as late as '89). I guess the Cab shoe really sealed the deal.

YOU KIDS WHINE AND CRY ABOUT THIS SHIT LIKE IT REALLY MATTERS TO YOU AT ALL. EVERYTHING IS OWNED BY SOME BILLION DOLLAR SHIT SO SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT IT. THEY WILL PROBABLY SELL THIS WEIRD NEW VANS 6.0 SHIT AT FOOTLOCKERS FOR CHEAPER THAN NIKES, THAN REALIZE IT WONT WORK AND STOP AFTER A SEASON OR SOMETHING. START A THREAD ABOUT SOME REAL SHIT LIKE FREEING MAX B!
Dude, I love the fact that you're passionate about something, but maybe your efforts would be better suited beating down Jim Jones' door to get him to free up Max B's publishing rights so the fool can sell some music.

Those may be them, yes.  I only saw them briefly, on the subway, so I can't really be sure, but how many could there be?
