I play the guitar but started off with the violin during elementary. In high school I quit that and applied what I learned to the guitar. Play some piano and occasionally the Mandolin.

Nope but word around the message board is that if anyone needs pointers you are the one to ask.

I always wondered what the open strings for a ukulele are. I wanted to get one and learn.

They're really fun. I wouldn't call myself the most avid uke player, but I still love messing around on them. Plus everyone feels good when somebody plays a couple of happy chord progressions on one!

Wow that's pretty cool. In my high school there was this kid who brought a uke and would play it all day. I'll have to get one this summer.

I always wanted to learn how to use a synth but didn't really know how to approach it. I have friends who have them but whenever I sit down to use it I feel overwhelmed.

i literally knew nothing about playing piano or even how synthesis worked; i just picked it up as I went along.  a keyboard is laid out pretty intuitively (in a mathematical sense).  for me it was just a lot of trial and error, with lots of youtube to fill in the blanks.  having a DAW to record into helped me out a lot as well.

Mainly guitar (mostly electric), some mandolin plus other stringed instruments like bouzouki, banjo, ukulele and more.
Also have done a lot of basic electronic stuff, pedals, oscillators, contactmics radios, tapes  etc etc..

Tried tenor saxophone for a few years, have given up by now, I was no Evan Parker..

I had to take piano lessons through high school. Learned how to play the trumpet from a buddy who was a band geek, not well mind you.

I used to play percussion for my schools symphonic bands, but got into playing a drum set for the jazz band, and have been playing exclusively  on a set ever since.

Do you still play for jazz groups? I always wanted to get into the school's jazz band in high school but did symphony orchestra, mariachi, and some percussion thing instead. Right now I'm trying to get into Jazz guitar.

I joined one of my school's jazz bands as a favor to my teacher, but quit after the first day when he refused to let me replace my high E string, even though I tried to do so well before the practice.

So lame! The jazz teacher at our school was also the mariachi teacher. It was pretty sick! Before winter break we would go caroling around the school.

Crazy. In my percussion class I had to use them every so often. Wasn't really that good at them. Only knew how to play a few scales.

I play the guitar, bass, synth/piano, and have a couple of Ukuleles. I'm really wanting to get a drum machine and invest more so in music than anything else at the moment. Self taught on everything and I feel the best way to learn is by looking up the chords to songs you like then learning them. Eventually you build knowledge on strumming and remember enough chords to put it all together for something of your own.

I've been playing the guitar for 12 years now, still my main instrument and I love it.
Been playing piano as well for about 5 years now, still working on getting that jazzy vibe and flow like I've always wanted.
